The inaugural Mother’s Day By Choice: Lucky Cat Brunch, hosted by the groundbreaking women’s organization, I’ll Have What She’s Having, is not only going to be an amazing meal curated by women chefs across Houston but also a celebration of the diverse paths and approaches to motherhood. The brunch is on Sunday, May 5 — one week ahead of Mother’s Day — from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the beautiful Ralph Smith Studios at 226 Elm.

The fun, family-style dim sum dishes and cocktails are showcasing local artisan products and produce to fantastic effect. Participating chefs are Alexandra Pena (The Dunlavy), Evelyn Garcia (Decatur Bar), Mary Cuclis (Pondicheri), Benchawan Jabthong (Street to Kitchen Thai), Dory Fung (Secret Taste, Fung’s Kitchen), Keisha Bocage Griggs (Ate Boutique Kitchen, Bocage Catering), Natasha Douglas, Shiva DiVirgilio (Rishi Hospitality), Tina Blanco (Mangol French Baking) and Fah Vorarittinapa (Lemongrass Café). Kris Sowell (Ladies of Libation), Laurie Harvey (ladies of libation and JoJo Martinez (J Martini Services) will lead the cocktail creations.

Mothers of hospitality employees and “moms” of the restaurant industry can receive a 10-percent discount on tickets with the code “CallMeMom.” Complimentary valet parking is included (gratuity only).

In addition to eating, there’s a silent auction. There are opportunities to donate for the auction, too, and more information is available online. Proceeds from both the brunch and the silent auction benefit Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast.

This is a casual-attire event, so dress for comfort! The day will be extra festive thanks to live music by Kristine Mills. Tickets are $75 per person and can be purchased online.
