On Saturday, April 6, big tasting event Katy Sip & Stroll, organized by frequent culinary event host Food & Vine Time Productions, is returning. This year, the goal is to raise funds for local charity Christ Clinic, which provides “high-quality healthcare and healthcare-related services to those who are uninsured and underinsured.” — all while participants have a great time tasting dishes from area restaurants and a plethora of drinks. The ARK by Norris Event Center at 21402 Merchants Way is hosting this year’s Katy Sip & Stroll.

Tickets are on sale now, and the organizers say they’re expecting a sellout. General admission tickets, which include entry at 6 p.m. and the tastings, are $75. VIP Zone tickets cost $110 and include event entry at 5 p.m. — an hour ahead of general admission guests — as well as exclusive bonuses such as lounge seating, special bites, a big keepsake glass and swag bag. Those who want their own cabana-like setting can inquire about the limited-availability Private Deluxe Hospitality Tents. Free parking is available, and a shuttle will transport attendees from their cars to the event entry.

Incredibly, this is the 27th edition of the Katy Sip & Stroll, and this year features over 35 restaurant tasting stations, five dessert booths and over 300 beverages, including wine, spirits, non-alcoholic beverages and “All Things Bubbly”, an array of sparkling wines from around the world that includes selections from Freixenet Mionetto

Kroger is providing the biggest edible display: the 60-foot Kroger Experience Alley laden with everything needed to go alongside a glass of wine, including Boar’s Head charcuterie, Murray’s Cheese, snacks, fruit, baked goods, pastries and more. White Claw is also making quite the presentation with its Super Claw Lounge, outfitted with its hard seltzers, flavored vodkas, cocktails and small bites. For those who like their drinks neat, the Spirits Patio will offer several brands and types of spirits, as well as cocktails.

A big part of the event is the Premier Culinary Awards presented by local Latino food and beverage company Goya Foods. The participating restaurants will compete to be named as having the best bite of the evening. Last year’s winner was Phat Eatery, which served Lobster Dumplings made a la minute and topped with delicate fresh truffle shavings. (I’m honored to be among the judges for the first time this year.)

Here are just a few of the participating restaurants:

All of the proceeds from onsite auctions and raffles are going to Christ Clinic. These include the Charity Party Wagon Raffle. The wagon is chock-full of $1,000-worth of wine, spirits, swag, and more. (I saw one at Food & Vine Time’s Nach-Yo Ordinary Tequila Tasting in downtown Houston last year, and let me tell you, it’s a sight to behold.) You can also try your luck in a wine pull and silent auction.

In case you’re in the market for a new car (or just like mighty fine rides), BMW of West Houston will have some vehicles onsite so you can slide in and get a feel of the swanky interior. (No, they probably won’t let you test-drive it.) For live musical entertainment, Shang and Byron’s 2 Man Band is performing on the Aruba Tourism Party Stage, the Nowhere But Up Band with Angelique and Oscar Maldonado are playing on the Back Lot Music Stage and DJ London is spinning tunes in the ARK Ballroom.
