Truffle Masters Returns for 2021 as a Multi-Day Event Series

The annual Truffle Masters fundraiser is returning in a new format tailored to the realities of a global pandemic and to help struggling restaurants. Started in 2015 by Diane Roederer, owner and founder of gourmet food purveyor DR Delicacy, the event, cosponsored by Texan Bank and Karbach Brewing, showcases winter black truffles and the creativity of restaurants in Houston — and, for the first time, restaurants in Austin, Dallas and San Antonio — while raising money for a featured charity.

In a normal year, the celebration is held in a large venue with big crowds and many restaurants offering imaginative dishes highlighting black truffles. The evening usually culminates with a panel of judges crowning their favorite dishes. But this isn’t a normal year. So, instead, the seventh annual Truffle Masters is multi-day, statewide affair that takes place at participating restaurants from February 11 to 28.

To support restaurants that are struggling due to COVID-19, diners are encouraged to either order takeout or dine in (masked up and socially distanced, of course) at the participating establishments. Each of these restaurants are offering a special dish that prominently features black truffles provided by DR Delicacy. In addition, some restaurants are also offering pairings with beers from Karbach Brewing.

This year’s weeks-long extravaganza benefits the Texas Food and Wine Alliance. This nonprofit supports Texas’ culinary community through educational programs, such as the high school-focused Culinary Art Career Conference, and grants to innovative artisans and food-based organizations.

In addition to helping the Texas Food and Wine Alliance, diners can also vote on their favorite dish in two categories: savory or sweet. At the end of the 18-day event, the restaurants with the most votes will be named this year’s “Truffle Masters.” Last year, sister restaurants MAD and BCN Taste & Tradition went home with the coveted honor and the fork-and-truffle trophy.

Below are the restaurants participating in this year’s fundraiser. As more restaurants join, these will be added to the list on the Truffle Masters website.
