Popular Peri-Peri Chicken Restaurant Opens Katy Location

Those in and near Katy hoping to take part in the classic British “Cheeky Nando’s” meme now have a location of the South African peri-peri chicken chain in the neighborhood. Located at 23501 Cinco Ranch in the La Centerra shopping center, the new outpost is the third in Texas — the second Texas location opened in Addison — and began business on February 5. Nando’s first Texas spot began business in Houston’s Uptown neighborhood in August 2023. A fourth is set to open in Austin later this year.

“Launching our third Nando’s location in Cinco Ranch marks a significant milestone for us in Texas. The reception we’ve experienced across the state has been phenomenal, with tremendous support and warmth from the local communities,” said Nando’s CEO John Fisher via press release. “We are thrilled to not only introduce our renowned flame-grilled PERi-PERi dishes but also to weave ourselves into the vibrant fabric of the Cinco Ranch community.”

Nando’s began in Johannesburg in 1987 and is best known for chicken tenders with a fusion of South African and Portuguese flavors. The “PERi-PERi chicken” that’s earned them global renown is named after the peri-peri pepper, sometimes referred to as the African birds-eye chili. Diners can enjoy the signature chicken, which, according to Nando’s, is “meticulously marinated for a full 24 hours in a secret blend of aromatic herbs and spices” — as classic strips and bone-in cuts, as a sandwich or wrap, on a skewer, on top of a salad or mixed in with macaroni and cheese

Sides and shareables include halloumi cheese with jam, marinated olives, hummus and pita, fries, cauliflower, corn on the cob, sweet potatoes, Brussels sprouts and more.

The Cinco Ranch Nando’s continues the chain’s commitment to promoting South African artists through its Creative Block initiative, which provides resources and visibility to emerging talent. At the latest location, a press release notes that “African-made screens add both color and intimacy to booths,” and “decorative elements such as lush potted plants” create a vibrant, striking atmosphere for enjoying vibrant, striking food. These splashes of brightness are balanced with the hand-painted, black-and-white collage of abstracted shapes adorning the walls.

Ashanti Design crafted the centerpiece of the Cinco Ranch location’s 70-seat dining room: disk lights covered in hand-woven shades in a rainbow of purple, blue, orange and white. South African visual artist Agrippa Hlophe designed the new Nando’s external mural bursting with geometric patterns, which “wraps around the building, creating a visually arresting backdrop for the new pergola,” which seats 77.

Bottled wine and beer, as well as frozen cocktails such as the Peach Lemonade Poncha, a rum-based beverage served with parsley and a wedge of lemon, are also available. The sweet, cold tang provides a refreshing contrast to the tangy, spicy heat of Nando’s internationally-renowned chicken.

Nando’s Cinco Ranch location is open from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Additional information regarding the current menu, commitment to South African art, history and more can be found on the website.
