Mascalzone Prepares to Pack Up & Leave Houston

The original and only remaining location of Mascalzone in Houston at 12126 Westheimer announced on social media that after five years of business, it is closing. The restaurant was originally founded in London by former Italian Olympic boxer Andrea Magi. The features at the Houston location included a big, state-of-the-art Marana-Forni pizza oven. The name hailed from the signature dish: a round of pizza dough where half was folded over into a calzone, while the other half was pizza.

The company expanded to a second location at 1500 Shepherd in 2015. Originally helmed by chef Alberto Baffoni, it shuttered only two years later despite initial positive reviews. In addition to the woodfired pizzas, the West Houston eatery served classic Italian pasta dishes.

Mascalzone’s owners are wasting no time in closing. The final night of service is tomorrow, Thursday February 28.
