Homegrown Houston Craft Burger Chain Expands To Third Location

A third BuffBurger is slated to open in November at 10550 Westheimer in the CityWest Retail Center just west of Beltway 8. The Westchase-area location joins the company’s existing locations at I-10 and Wirt and in Montrose on West Alabama. Paul “Buff” Burden and his wife Sara Morris Burden opened the first location in 2015 where they emphasize local, fresh, organic, natural and sustainable ingredients, including black Angus beef from 44 Farms in Cameron, Texas. They also prepare a range of customizable sandwiches, including vegetarian and gluten-free options.

In addition to Texas Angus Ranch as well as 44 Farms fresh organic beef, BuffBurger’s sandwich options include an Ahi tuna patty grilled rare and served with spicy wasabi tartar sauce; a savory grilled or buttermilk battered fried chicken breast sandwich; and a crunchy street corn fritter patty. Cheese choices include Point Reyes all-natural cheddar, tangy truffle, blue and Swiss cheeses and both creamy goat cheese and bright feta from Pure Luck in Dripping Springs, Texas. Sauce options include truffle aioli, jalapeño ketchup and bourbon BBQ sauce.

There are premium toppings, too, and they include smoky, hand-cut bacon, chunky guacamole, melted or crispy onions and bourbon onion jam. Diners have a choice between yeast, potato, or gluten-free buns or may order a sandwich “in the Buff,” wherein iceberg lettuce leaves replace the bun.

In addition to the existing lunch and dinner options the new CityWest location is serving breakfast, which it also recently debuted at the Wirt and Montrose locations. Morning options range from an egg sandwich topped with chives, cheddar cheese, avocado, grilled onions and spicy mayo on a challah bun to a fried chicken biscuit with pepper jelly, smoked salmon with all the fixings and a breakfast burger paired with an egg. As with the Montrose location, the Westchase location is planning on a full bar with wine, beer and an array of spirits and cocktails. Inside the new space, a custom design will incorporate the company’s signature green and white tiles. Additional design features will include Houston- and Texas-themed decor plus tables and chairs made from reclaimed materials.
