Inaugural Tasting Event in Hockley is Showcasing Over 300 Wines

The Club at Houston Oaks

The Clubs at Houston Oaks, a 1000-acre golf and sporting club located at 22602 Hegar in Hockley, is hosting its first-ever Houston Oaks Wine & Food Classic, a day of wine and food tasting, live music and educational seminars. It’s happening on February 15 from noon to 5 p.m. General admission tickets are still available for $175 each; VIP passes are already sold out.

From downtown Houston during light traffic times, the drive to Hockley takes about 45 minutes. However, those who are in Houston and don’t want to drive at all have another option. For $50, they can go to Hotel Granduca at 1080 Uptown Park and catch a bus that will take them straight to the event and back again. (Sounds like a great time to catch up on some reading, too.) The bus leaves at 11 a.m. and returns at 6:30 p.m.

More than 60 wineries are participating and collectively bringing over 300 wines to taste, buy and take home. Some rare selections are promised. There are also featured small-batch spirits from JCB Spirits Collection and Veneno Tequila, food by the club’s culinary team, cheese and olive oil vendors and much more.

Below is just a small selection of the participating wineries; visit the website for the entire list:

  • Alexander Valley Vineyards
  • Amici Cellars
  • Bertrand Wines
  • Château Mongravey
  • Château Picque Caillou
  • Crawford Malone Selections
  • Dom Perignon
  • Hess Collection
  • Moet & Chandon
  • Rombauer

Guests can add seminars to their experience, including a Bordeaux master class with Court of Masters Master Sommelier Guy Stout, director of wine education at Southern Glazer’s. The full list of seminars is available online. Some have already sold out. These do cost a small additional fee and ticket holders need a grand tasting-level ticket in order to register for a seminar. The grand tasting ticket is $175 and includes a Reidel wine glass and complimentary parking.

Other add-ons include Saturday brunch before the event from 9 a.m. to noon, and a fried chicken feast for $35 per person after the event from 6 to 8 p.m. Visit the Houston Oaks Wine & Food Classic webpage for additional details and tickets.
