Cult-Favorite Tim Hortons Reveals First Houston-Area Locations
Canada-based coffee and doughnut chain Tim Hortons caused quite a stir when the company announced its intent to open multiple locations in the Greater Houston area. Now, we know where the first one under construction is located. Ground has been broken at 21811 Clay Road in Katy, just a few blocks from the Grand Parkway.
Additionally, two more Tim Hortons are on the way: one at 5312 West Richey and the other at 13451 Northwest Freeway in the Champions/Willowbrook area. All are expected to open sometime in 2022.
Those who’ve never visited a Tim Hortons may wonder what the buzz is about. Essentially, the company is a fast-food giant in Canada. National Hockey League star Tim Horton founded the chain in Ontario. Following his death, a man named Ron Joyce took it over in 1974. By 2000, the company had opened 2,000 restaurants across Canada, and these days, it has over 600 locations in parts of the United States. The lion’s share of those are in New York.
Tim Hortons is acclaimed not just for its coffee, but also for its doughnuts and all-day breakfasts. Its doughnut holes, called Timbits, were introduced in 1976 and practically have their own social media following, with almost 100,000 posts tagged with #timbits.
Expect more opening announcements later this year, as developer TH of Texas “plans to bring many more Tim Hortons locations to the Houston area in the coming years.”
