Chef Ana Artemyeva, a private chef based in The Woodlands, Texas, knows all the secrets to creating a fine-dining experience at home. She serves the Greater Houston area, but before that spent the last eight years cooking in restaurants across Europe and the United States. These days, Chef Ana brings that experience directly into her clients’ kitchens. We talked to her about what it’s really like to hire a private chef in Houston, how she built her practice, and why intimate, at-home dining is quietly becoming residents’ favorite way to entertain.
Q: How did your culinary career start, and why did you want to become a chef?
It started in my grandmother’s kitchen, honestly. She could turn three simple ingredients into something people remembered for years, and I wanted to know how she did it. That curiosity took me through professional kitchens in Europe and then in the United States. I now have more than eight years of fine dining and farm-to-table experience, I know about classical French technique and bold American regional cooking. Every kitchen taught me something different.
When I settled in Texas, I went to Houston Community College for its Culinary Arts program, and in 2025 I was one of only four students selected for a scholarship. That moment confirmed what I already felt: I wanted my own table, my own clients and my own standard. That’s how being a private chef in Houston that families can actually rely on became my full-time occupation.
Q: For people who’ve never hired one, what does a private chef actually do? How is it different from catering or running a restaurant?

A private chef comes to your home, cooks in your kitchen, plates and serves the meal and leaves your kitchen spotless. No containers, no delivery, and no reservation needed! The menu is created specifically for your tastes, your dietary needs and the occasion.
The main factor in catering is volume, and it usually comes with delivery. A restaurant offers a menu in a dining room. An in-home private chef is the opposite of both: it’s one chef, one table and one evening designed entirely for you. That intimacy is the whole point.
Q: What does a typical private chef dinner at someone’s home look like?
It starts a week or two before with a consultation. We talk about guests, allergies, the mood you want and whether it’s romantic, celebratory, or business. I design the menu, source the ingredients and arrive at your home two to three hours before guests sit down. I cook in your kitchen, plate each dish and serve your guests while adjusting to the pace of the conversation. After dessert, I clean everything. You’ll wake up the next morning, and the only evidence that I was there will be the memory of a fantastic meal.
For most clients in Houston, I prepare a four- or five-course plated dinner for 2 to 10 guests. I also create larger, in-home dinners for up to 20 people with a small team.
Q: Who hires a private chef in Houston?
There is a greater variety in my clients than one might expect! They include couples celebrating anniversaries or birthdays, families who want a real dinner together without anyone disappearing into the kitchen and executives hosting clients at home instead of at a restaurant. The fastest-growing group is guests staying in luxury vacation rentals across Houston and The Woodlands who want a restaurant-quality evening without leaving their retreats.
A lot of clients find me by searching “private chef near me” or by word of mouth. One of my weekly clients, Samantha, wrote that my meal experiences ” exceed even our favorite restaurants in Houston.” That kind of feedback is the bar I hold myself to. Personal Chef Ana grew almost entirely on referrals like hers.
Q: You’re known especially for working in The Woodlands. Why has that become your second home?
The Woodlands has the right combination: beautiful homes, families who care about food, and a real appetite for premium experiences without the formality of a restaurant. I’m based there, and I’ve built deep relationships with local clients, so it made sense to create a dedicated private chef in The Woodlands page where people in that area can see exactly how I work locally. From there I serve the entire Greater Houston area—Spring, Conroe, Katy, Sugar Land, Cypress and beyond.

Q: Vacation rentals are a big trend in Houston right now. You mentioned that you cook for guests staying in rental homes as well. How would you describe it?
It’s one of the most rewarding parts of what I do. People rent a beautiful home in Houston for a long weekend, a corporate retreat or a milestone birthday and want an evening that feels truly special without organizing a restaurant outing for 10 people. I come to the rental, cook, serve and clean up. Guests can stay in their robes if they want. It’s the most luxurious way to dine in Houston, and it’s still one of the city’s best-kept secrets.
Q: Let’s talk numbers. What does it cost to hire you for a private dinner?
I keep pricing transparent. For a private dinner for up to three guests, the chef fee starts at $1,500. For four to ten guests, it’s $2,000. Larger dinners start at $2,000 and go up depending on the menu and team needed. Groceries are billed separately at cost—no markup, ever. Clients see the actual receipts.
For people who want me on an ongoing basis instead of a one-time event, I also offer weekly meal-prep service, but the private chef Houston dinner experience is what most people come to me for.
Q: What’s the most memorable evening you’ve cooked?
One that stays with me is a son’s birthday celebration meal that I cooked for a Houston family. They later wrote that I, “don’t just cook” but “create an unforgettable dining experience,” and that their family was still talking about it long after. That’s the moment I work for. When the cooking carries real intention, people taste it and they remember.
Q: In conclusion, could you tell our readers how they can book you?
The simplest way is through my website. There’s a contact form on the homepage, or you can text directly. We’ll set up a free consultation, talk through the date and the vision, and I’ll send a custom proposal within a day. For weekends and holidays, I recommend booking two to three weeks ahead. For The Woodlands and most areas of Houston, I can often accommodate shorter notice.
For Chef Ana, being a private chef in Houston isn’t a service category. It’s a craft she’s spent over a decade refining, one table at a time. In a city as big, busy and hungry as Houston, quiet, at-home, private chef cooking experiences are exactly what people are starting to look for.
