Chef Hugo Ortega’s Xochi Rolls Out Saturday Brunch

Houston’s Sunday brunch options abound, but Saturdays are thoroughly brunch-able, too. James Beard Award-winning Chef Hugo Ortega has proven he knows how to deliver a knock-out brunch at his other restaurants, such as Hugo’s and Caracol. Now, his latest restaurant, Xochi, (in the new Marriott Marquis downtown at 1777 Walker) has added Saturday brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

While Sunday brunch at Xochi remains the grand buffet spread that Ortega’s restaurants are known for, the new Saturday brunch features an a la carte menu of Oaxacan-inspired dishes, including breakfast and lunch items. On offer are egg dishes, tlayudas, seafood, grilled meats and more.

An extensive menu of eye-opening cocktails, including Palomas, Margaritas and the house sangria, complement the brunch dishes. Non-alcoholic options include aguas frescas, Topo Chico, Mexican Coke and coffee drinks.

The name Xochi comes from Xochitl, Goddess of the Flowers, and means to bloom or catch fire, and the menu showcases cuisine from the state of Oaxaca in southern Mexico. In addition to Chef Hugo Ortega, the culinary team at Xochi includes executive pastry chef Ruben Ortega and beverage director Sean Beck.
