Kahani Social Group, comprised of brothers Surpreet and Preet Paul Singh and executive chef Jassi Bindra, has found success in The Woodlands with its upscale Indian restaurant, Amrina. Now, it’s looking to equally charm midtown Houston residents and visitors with a more casual concept. Pok Pok Po, a “fried chicken parlour”, is taking over the former Artisans space in The Mix at Midtown at 3201 Louisiana. The center is also home to other eateries such as JINYA Ramen Bar, Gen Korean BBQ, Cloud 10 Creamery and Piola’s.

Since Amrina opened in 2022, Bindra’s elevated Indian cuisine has earned significant acclaim both inside and outside the restaurant. In August 2023, he won an episode of “Chopped” on Food Network. Closer to home, he took first place in a caviar competition hosted by DR Delicacy (the same business that hosts the annual The Truffle Masters event) for his Caviar Crisp with yellowfin tuna, avocado, Granny Smith apple and sesame. Amrina was also named by Southern Living as one of 20 must-visit restaurants on a Houston food tour.

Pok Pok Po promises “expertly crafted fried chicken, complemented by a selection of inventive sides and housemade condiments and sauces”. The style of fried chicken that Bindra makes is battered with a mix of herbs and spices and double-fried.

“The inspiration for Pok Pok Po stemmed from the overwhelming success of our fried chicken brunches at Amrina,” said Singh via a press release. “We knew there was something truly special about our fried chicken, and we’re excited to bring that magic to Pok Pok Po.”

While there are few details available at this time about the space, the atmosphere is intended to be casual, inviting and a place where people can socialize and even hang out and get some work done if they wish.

Pok Pok Po is anticipated to open late this summer.
