Where to Dine for Father’s Day 2021 in Houston — Updated

Father’s Day is Sunday, June 20, and Dad deserves the best that Houston can offer — especially since so many families didn’t get to go out and celebrate in 2020 due to the pandemic. Plenty of locales are serving specials sure to satisfy the patriarch of the family, from sensational seafood to Texas-sized steaks. We’ve rounded up where to go and what to eat throughout the Houston area. 

CYPRESS

Dario’s Steakhouse and Seafood, 14315 Cypress Rosehill: All Sunday long, diners can choose three courses from options such as Duck Spring Rolls, a Seafood Trio Cocktail with fresh oysters, shrimp and crab meat, Chilean sea bass, prime rib served with garlic whipped potatoes and au jus, and a choice of desserts such as Orange Crème Brûlée, strawberry cheesecake and key lime pie. The cost is $55 for adults plus tax, tip and gratuity. 

Marvino’s Italian Steakhouse, 24002 Northwest Freeway: From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 20, bring the family for a delicious, three-course meal including Bacon Whipped Brussel Sprouts, Norwegian Salmon, Marvino’s Filet Mignon and more.  The cost is $52 for adults and $15 for children plus tax, tip and gratuity. The Nash, 1111 Rusk: The spacious downtown Mediterranean restaurant is open on Father’s Day for brunch only with service from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Enjoy the regular menu featuring dishes such as The Nash Pancakes, Arod’s Homemade Waffle, Avocado Benedict Toast and more. Visit the website to reserve.

Xochi, 1777 Walker in the Marriott Marquis: Treat Dad to a Oaxacan-style brunch from James Beard Award-winning Chef Hugo Ortega.The special three-course menu includes Pozole Verde, Chilaquiles with marinated skirt steak and Chocolate Criollo available from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The cost is $49 for adults and $15 for children ages 12 and under, plus beverage, tax and gratuity. Choose from a assortment of wines and cocktails, too, and request a seat on the patio. After eating, take a stroll in nearby Discovery Green park. For those dining at home, curbside pick-up is also available. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made by calling (713) 300-4440.

EADO

8th Wonder Distillery, 2201 Dallas: This year, 8th Wonder Distillery is hosting chef Mike Grisby of Grisby Gras for a Father’s Day Steak Brunch. Menu options celebrate Cajun and Creole cuisine with dishes such as Prime Ribeye & Omelet, Southern Crab Cakes, crawfish étouffée and Mardi Gras Mac & Cheese. The distillery is open on Father’s Day from noon to 10 p.m., and brunch is available from 12 to 4 p.m.

GALLERIA

Doris Metropolitan, 2815 South Shepherd: Treat Dad to a fine steak along with a one-of-a-kind cocktail with the $25 Doris Met Old Fashioned. The luxe drink is made with Doris Metropolitan’s private Maker’s Mark label aged in a barrel made with custom staves. The barrel composition included one baked American pure, four seared French cuvée, four Maker’s Mark 46 and one Toasted French Spice, with each stave each lending unique flavor characteristics to the finished product. Spending the day at home? Stop by the butcher shop at Doris and pick up dry-aged steaks to-go. The butcher shop is open Tuesday to Saturday from noon to 10 p.m.

Kenny & Ziggy’s, 2327 Post Oak Boulevard: Treat dad to gourmet deli treats available for pick-up, delivery and dine-in. There are three family-sized brunch packages available for pick-up that feed from four to six people and range in price from $95 to $135, plus tax, tip and gratuity. Choose from the Smoked Fish bundle featuring Nova Scotia salmon and whitefish, the Delicatessen showcasing pastrami and corned beef or the New York Combo that includes sable, sturgeon, and whitefish. North Italia, 1700 Post Oak Boulevard: This modern Italian spot is popular for fresh pizzas and housemade pastas. Enjoy the special Father’s Day Lasagna Bolognese Family Pack that comes with Caesar salad, Parmesan garlic bread and an indulgent tiramisu. It costs $65.

Additionally, now through June 20, order $50 in gift cards online and receive a $10 bonus e-card. North Italia is donating 2% of all gift card sales to FoodCorps in support of its mission to grant kids access to healthy food in school.

TRIBUTE at The Houstonian, 111 North Post Oak Lane: Give Dad the gift of good taste with brunch or dinner at this well-appointed yet unpretentious hotel restaurant. Specials include Smoked Painted Hills Prime Rib with Gulf Crab Macaroni and Cheese available at brunch or dinner and Chicken Fried Venison Eggs Benedict with charred jalapeño bearnaise, waffle hash brown and bourbon-bacon syrup available for brunch only.

Harold’s Restaurant, 350 West 19th: We recently found out about this under-the-radar Father’s Day special. Harold’s is offering two kinds of Grill Boxes filled with various cuts and types of meat. It’s perfect for Dads who love outdoor cooking. The Original Grill Box is $45.95 and includes four each of top butt center-cut steaks, boneless center-cut pork chops, chicken breast filets and beef burger patties. The Summer Grill Box is $49.95 and has four each of beef burger patties and chicken breast files, a 3-pound chicken (already conveniently cut up into eight pieces) and eight 2-ounce 44 Farms Angus beef franks. Prefer to dine in? Harold’s has a very popular brunch on Saturdays and Sunday — and it’s now starting an hour earlier than it used to. It runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., so early enough for a lazy-morning breakfast. Visit the website for the menu and reservations.

Monkey’s Tail, 5802 Fulton: Nothing says Father’s Day like baseball and brunch. Head to Monkey’s Tail for a special Astros Brunch. Watch the game (with audio) while enjoying a meal from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Try the Steak & Eggs, which includes a 14-ounce ribeye with eggs, hollandaise and spicy chili potatoes for $17. 

KATY

Phat Eatery, 23119 Colonial Parkway: Celebrate Dad with three anniversary specials — one for each year that the restaurant has been open. The specials running from June 19 through 30 are draft beer and hot sake for $3 each, buttery flakey Roti Canai with curry dip is $3 per order and Curry Crawfish are “buy three pounds, get one pound free” at $5.99 per pound (three-pound minimum). Father’s Day brunch is from 10:30 am to 3 p.m., and includes an extensive menu of Lodge favorites. Davis St. at Hermann Park, 5925 Almeda: Make this Father’s Day legendary with a Signature Southern four-course meal featuring dishes such as Southern Caprese Salad, NOLA oysters, Crispy Thai Shrimp, Fried Cornish Hen served alongside a sweet potato waffle, and a Texa’Sippi Mud Jar. The meal is available from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and costs $60 per person, plus tax, tip and gratuity.

Ember & Greens Restaurant and Bar, 9403 Katy Freeway: Visit this family owned-and-operated restaurant and bar for healthy comfort food and unique American dishes with international flair. On Father’s Day, get the regular brunch menu plus two off-menu specials: the E&G Surf and Turf, a premium-cut filet mignon topped with pan-seared shrimp scampi served on a bed of creamy garlic mashed potatoes and side of chargrilled broccolini, and the Apricot & Thyme Lamb Chops, a double bone-in lamb chop served with scallopini and apricot-thyme glaze. Brunch is available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and dinner until 8 p.m. for dine-in and to-go. There is a Fridge Friendly menu, too, with an array of prepared dishes and make-at-home kits. KP’s Kitchen, 700 Town and Country Boulevard: Celebrate dads with a week-long special available June 18 through 25. The Surf and Turf meal feeds two people and includes an eight-ounce Certified Angus Filet Mignon topped with salsa verde, KP’s Crab Cake made with Blue Horizon Gulf crab served over Parisian mustard and house slaw, Truffle Parmesan Fries, roasted Brussel sprouts and two house salads for $65 plus tax, tip and gratuity.

Reserve 101, 1201 Caroline: Gift Dad a unique tasting experience with Honor the Father, a classy celebration featuring limited-release blends from Beam Distillery. It is Sunday, June 20 at 7 p.m. The evening is guided by Adam Harris, who is an award-winning Senior Ambassador for James B. Beam Distilling Co., and includes selections from the Little Book collection created by 8th generation distiller Freddie Noe. Offerings include Chapter 1: The Easy (2017), Chapter 2: Noe Simple task (2018), Chapter 3: The Road Home (2019) and Chapter 4: Lessons Honored (2020). Gatsby’s Prime Steakhouse, 4319 Montrose: Celebrate with a special three-course dinner at this luxe new hotpot. It costs $85 per person and comes with a wedge salad, 10-ounce wagyu filet served Oscar-style, baked potato, and cheesecake. The Pit Room, 1201 Richmond: Barbecue-loving dads can take advantage of the special Wagyu Beef Ribs and Wagyu Brisket for Father’s Day weekend. Alternatively, visit for breakfast tacos available daily from 7 to 10:30 a.m.

Good Vibes Burgers & Brews, 1329 East Broadway: Savor brunch with juicy burgers, fresh salads, a raw bar and more at this fresh and breezy spot in Pearland (at the former King’s Biergarten site). In addition to discounted cocktail and beer specials, there is a 14-ounce NY Strip served with chef’s seasonal vegetables and roasted potatoes for $20 on Father’s Day.

Jimmy Changas, 3515 Business Center Drive: Dads with little ones will appreciate the expansive patio at this Pearland locale, perfect for low-key celebrations. Stop by for the Chango Platter loaded with taquitos, Donkey Wings, Tex-Mex eggrolls and Gorilla Peppers: stuffed jalapeños filled with cheese, pulled pork and barbecue sauce. There are plenty of entrée choices, too, including combination plates, seafood specials, fajitas, tacos, and quesadillas. Wash it down with “Wild Margaritas”, like the Prickly ‘Rita with Western Son Prickly Pear Vodka or the frozen Triple Threat Margarita with raspberry, peach and amaretto meltdowns. Killen’s Steakhouse, 6425 W Broadway: Steak may be a stereotype for dads, but for good reason. Guests flock to Killen’s Steakhouse for both stellar seafood selections and the famous steaks — music to Dad’s ears and stomach. Get the celebration started with Fresh Shucked East Coast Oysters and Mesquite Smoked Kurobuta Pork Belly with sweet and spicy cherry-habanero BBQ glaze. Then, choose from wet- or dry-aged cuts that include domestic Wagyu, and Japanese A5 Wagyu from the Kagoshima Prefecture. There are 14 side dishes from which to choose, such as elevated versions of creamed cornsauteed forest mushroomsgrilled broccolini with almonds and macaroni and cheese. Ask for the extensive wine list, or opt for one of the excellent cocktails or beers.

State Fare Kitchen & Bar, Multiple locations: Skip traditional Dad’s Day meals and opt for the sweet and savory H-Town Chicken and Donuts or Texas-Style Loco Moco, a spin on the hearty Hawaiian breakfast with rice, grilled Spam or beef smothered in brown gravy (that’s the Texas part), and topped with a fried egg. The full menu with is available, including the all-time dad favorite Tampiquena (beef fajita steak, choice of cheese or chicken enchilada, rajas poblanas con crema, rice & tortillas), as well as a special three-course Father’s Day menu for $34. The Halal Guys, multiple locations: For the casual Dad: nosh on Mediterranean fare and get a free side with purchase of any entrée on Father’s Day. Options include hummus, baba ganoush (grilled eggplant mixed with tahini, olive oil, and seasonings) and Falafel (ground chickpeas, seasoned with a blend of herbs and spices then shaped into balls and deep-fried). Hungry’s, two locations: Complement fresh global fare with Old Fashioned Flights for $15 on Father’s Day. The flight includes three different spirits incorporated into variations of the classic cocktail: Luxardo Makers Old Fashioned, Flor De Caña Smoked Old Fashioned, and Bulleit Bourbon Old Fashioned.

The Union Kitchen, multiple locations: The Houston-grown, small chain is offering a special a la carte brunch menu at each of its six locations for Father’s Day. The menu includes Brisket Deviled Eggs, BBQ Brisket Benedict, Prime Rib & Eggs, Cast Iron Apple Blueberry Cobbler and more. There are wine specials, too, including a bottle of Katherine Goldschmidt for $50 and Quilt for $60 per bottle. The regular brunch menu will also be available.
