Fire Stone Pizza Bar, 11625 Broadway: When it comes to feeding children, pizza is nearly always a sure thing, and this cool parlor has plenty of selections for the whole family. On Wednesdays, kids aged 3 to 11 eat free all day from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.! The offer is good for one kid’s meal per each adult meal of $15 or more. The menu includes a choice of a 9-inch, one-topping pizza or build-your-own pasta with chicken or meatballs. Mention the website ad to your server to secure the deal. Try an assortment of starters such as Roasted Garlic Bruschetta and Calamari & Fresh Sweet Peppers, plus salads, wings and the namesake pies. For the latter, build your own from an extensive list of toppings like pepperoni, sausage, prosciutto, pineapple, spinach, mushrooms and caramelized pears. Pre-selected specialty pizzas include 17 classic and creative combinations like the Fire Stone Supreme with pepperoni, Italian sausage, hamburger, onion, black olive and mushroom, the Poblano Chicken topped with poblano sauce, chicken, sweet onion, poblano peppers and cilantro or the Frito Pie with chili sauce, hamburger, cheddar cheese and Fritos. Those avoiding gluten can swap in cauliflower crust for a few bucks more. 

In addition to kid-friendly sodas and specialty lemonades, there are plenty of draft beers, wines and cocktails for those of age.

Iguanas Ranas Cantina, 6200 Broadway: Dig into classic Tex-Mex favorites at this cool eatery that also has an arcade filled with games for all ages including a claw machine, racing car and more. Can’t-miss starters include the Bacon Iguana Shrimp stuffed with Monterey Jack cheese, wrapped in bacon and served with butter chipotle sauce, and Head Honcho Nachos loaded with pork carnitas and a slew of toppings. Entrées include popular staples such as chile relleno and carne guisada alongside grilled meats and seafood, combination plates, enchiladas and more. Adults can choose from standard margaritas or 11 specialty cocktails like the Blue Iguana with blue curacao, coconut rum, vodka, pineapple juice and sweet and sour orange juice, or the Cucumber Jalapeno Rita with Sauza Blue tequila, orange juice, cucumbers and jalapenos. Jimmy Changas, 3515 Business Center Drive: Find an extensive menu of Tex-Mex favorites at this vibrant kitchen that touts “fun” in its tagline — and for good reason. The locale boasts plenty of outdoor space for adults to lounge before or after dining, and the patio-adjacent Jimmy’s Jungle features a slide and mini rock wall suitable for kids 10 years and younger. 

Sample from a rotating selection of food and drink specials, or stick to popular standbys like Gorilla Peppers, which are jalapeños stuffed with cream cheese, pulled pork and barbecue sauce or the Chango Platter loaded with taquitos, chicken fajita nachos, Tex-Mex Eggrolls and Gorilla Peppers. There are combination plates, tacos, fajitas, enchiladas and more, plus a full bar of specialty cocktails, beers and margaritas.  

Kids 12 and under can order from the Little Jimmy’s Menu, which includes a choice of entrée like cheese enchilada or crispy taco, a drink, soft-serve ice cream and access to Jimmy’s Jungle playground.

KnP Social, 11720 Broadway: When kids start bouncing off the walls, it’s time to expand the room, and KnP, which stands for “Kid N Play” is an excellent venue for groups of all sizes. This all-ages locale has plenty of ways to make memories while burning off excess energy. Highlights include a Virtual Simulator Suite with more than 13 sports like soccer, basketball, hockey and golf, an Axe Throwing experience in custom enclosed bays, and an Arcade filled with classic and modern games.

The onsite kitchen ensures convenient snack breaks and serves a variety of hearty bites such as Crispy Pickles and Texas Corn Riblets, plus sandwiches, tacos, pasta and kids’ menu selections like hot dogs and pizza.

Sam’s Boat, 239 Silverlake Village Drive: The original location of this Gulf Coast mainstay opened in Houston in the early 1980s, and quickly became a beloved spot for seafood, crawfish, burgers and more. Even more appealing for parents in particular: kids eat free from open to close Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and there is a large playground. The free kids deal is valid for children 12 and under and applies only to the kids’ menu. Each free meal must correspond to an adult meal purchase.

Lunch specials include 14 selections for less than $12 Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Options include the catfish basket served with fries, cole slaw and hushpuppies and the 1/2 Shrimp Po’Boy Combo with a choice of salad, soup, red beans & rice or gumbo. At dinner, the menu expands to starters such as Crab Queso and Campechana De Mariscos, plus plenty of boiled seafood combos, fresh catch, burgers and entreés.

The Snowcone Lady’s Snack Shack, 4218 Broadway: This fun and cheerful outpost is a one-stop shop for sweet treats and savory snacks, plus a variety of entertainment. There is a large, inviting, pet-friendly patio ideal for hanging out with friends and family. (Treat your furry friend to a Pup Cup with whipped cream!) Games include basketball, corn hole, oversized Connect Four, hula hoops, tabletop games and more. Menu highlights include snow cones that start at just $1.50 and are available in 22 traditional flavors like grape and watermelon, plus a handful of sugar-free and natural options. There are ice cream sundaes, banana splits and chamoy specialties, too. The latter includes a variety of fruits and shaved ices garnished with candies, with selections like Snow Cone Fruit Chill, which is shaved ice accompanied by diced strawberries, watermelon, cantaloupe, bananas or pineapple, then finished with chamoy, Tajin chile, choice of snow cone syrup, sour belts candy and a tamarind stick. Shakes and frappes round out the menu, in flavors such as banana with cinnamon and caramel, respectively.

Savory selections include hot dogs, elote, nachos and buttered popcorn. For something a bit different, try something off the pickle menu that includes dishes like Frozen Pick-A-Dilly made with shaved ice, pickles, chamoy, Tajin chile and snow cone syrup.
