Chingaari, 12155 Shadow Creek Parkway: This Indian take-out restaurant, located in Yogi-India Grocers, opened last fall and swiftly made its way to top of Tripadvisor’s ratings as the best Indian restaurant in Pearland. The restaurant serves familiar dishes such as Chicken Tikka Masala, Saag Paneer and Samosas, while also wowing locals with its Mumbai Street Style Wada Pav, an Indian sandwich consisting of a deep-fried potato fritter (wada) nestled between fluffy Indian bread known as pav. Crawfish Cafe, 9240 Broadway: Just in time for the upcoming mudbug season, this fifth location of the locally grown Houston-area chain is proudly bringing Viet-Cajun style crawfish to the Pear. Known for being spicy while incorporating lemongrass and ginger to the boil, the garlic-butter-tossed style of crawfish may be Houston’s most significant culinary contribution ever. Anthony Bourdain brought it to the global stage in an episode of Parts Unknown back in 2016, though this hybridization of cuisines likely traces its roots to 2005 when Houston opened its doors to thousands of New Orleanians post-Hurricane Katrina. (Check out this article by Food and Wine detailing the history of Viet-Cajun cuisine). Crawfish Cafe doesn’t just serve spicy crawfish. It also offers a wide assortment of boiled, grilled and fried seafood¸— think Blue and Dungeness crab, New Zealand Mussels, Littleneck Clams, Chargrilled Oysters and more. In addition, the tasty starters are examples of how the fusion has evolved with appetizers such as Boudin Eggrolls and Crawfish Empanadas. While you’re there, order the Turkey Neck, which is slow-braised in an aromatic broth and served with a baguette. Trust us on this.

Dripped Birria, 9821 Broadway: With the opening of its Pearland location, Dripped Birria is intent on bringing the captivating food trend of birria tacos (aka quesabirria) to every corner of the Houston Metro area. By combining deep savory notes of a traditional birria stew with the portability of the taco alongside a cup of dipping consomé, it is no wonder this relatively novel dish has taken Mexican-American cuisine by storm. Dripped doesn’t just sleep on its birria taco laurels. It also serves Birria Ramen, a fusion dish which incorporates ramen noodles into the hearty stew. Also featured are Mexican street food staples including Quesadillas and Elote traditionally dressed with cotija cheese, mayo, crema and Valentina hot sauce. Dripped Pearland is open late to satisfy that post-event craving — midnight during the week and 2 a.m. on weekends. Order for pickup or delivery online.

The Korean influence can be spotted in the savory section, with items such as the Whole Red Bean Bread and Curry Croquette, while a vast donut and sandwich selection ensures there’s plenty on offer to please every palate at any time of the day. Be sure to grab one of the crafted coffee or tea creations to pair with the fresh baked goodies in your bag.

Remton, 1635 E. Broadway: Still in the first month of operations at its Pearland location (the original is in Webster), Remton offers a refined Vietnamese dining experience with creative offerings and detail-oriented service. Drawing influences from all of Eastern Asia, Remton’s menu showcases Viet classics such as Bún bò Huế, Phở and Lemongrass Vermicelli alongside dim sum favorites including fluffy Char Sui Buns, Prawn and Pork Sui Mai and everyone’s favorite, Xiao Long Bao soup-filled dumplings. There’s even a Japanese Ramen section to the menu, and whatever you do, don’t skip the vast beverage options ranging from smoothies, milk teas and the venerable cà phê sữa đá aka Vietnamese coffee served on ice with condensed milk.

Spudz Kitchen, 3691 Kirby Drive: This popular food truck turned brick-and-mortar is keeping Pearland residents’ bellies full with its customizable stuffed baked potatoes and Cajun-style barbecue. The most popular item on offer, the Build-Your-Own Spud, or BYOS for short, allows diners to select between three different potato options — rustic, sweet or French fries — topped with a near-limitless number of combinations. Proteins include brisket, sausage and even lobster, and the litany of sauces and toppings include Cajun Alfredo and BBQ to name a few. They also offer sandwiches and an enticing Rib Basket served with fries.

Sweet Magnolia’s Tea Room, 2202 Park Avenue: Located in the heart of Pearland’s Old Townsite and nestled within a charming historic bungalow, Sweet Magnolia’s Tea Room invites you to savor fresh, chef-inspired lunches and delightful afternoon teas. Experience the elegance of a classic tea party with a modern flair by reserving an afternoon tea service, complete with finger sandwiches, scones, deserts and your choice of tea. Feel free to drop in to sample the à la carte options ranging from soups, salads, sandwiches, quiche and more. Afternoon tea reservations can be made online

Tacos at Tacos Toreados. Courtesy Photo.

Tacos Toreados, 5627 Broadway: Pearland locals describe Tacos Toreados as the most authentic taqueria in the region. The expansive menu includes an array of traditional Mexican favorites including  tacos, burritos, tortas, caldos (soup) and grilled seafood as well as an expansive breakfast selection. The namesake Torta Toreado is a traditional Mexican sandwich made with pillowy bolillo bread stuffed with bacon, ham, milanesa, chorizo, refried beans, avocado, lettuce and tomato. Bring a friend, because you’ll need help finishing this one on your own.

Tofu Town, 11625 Broadway: Don’t let the name fool you. While tofu may be a staple in Korean cuisine, this traditional eatery features much more than its signature soy-based dishes. So come for the Kimchi Tofu Stew simmered with soft tofu, kimchi and beef, and stay for classic Korean plates like the crispy-and-chewy Kimchi Pancake, Tteokbokki— a spicy dish of stir fried rice cakes, egg and fish cake — and popular KBBQ staples Galbi and Bulgogi.  A big selection of hot stone Bibimbap allows diners to explore the sizzling rice bowls adorned with any variety of meats and vegetables, while more adventurous diners will be drawn to the Broiled Eel and Spicy Stir Fried Squid. Go online to order for pickup or delivery.
