Houston Restaurant Weeks 2019 is in full swing from now until September 2! It’s the perfect time to revisit long-time participant Ouisie’s Table at 3939 San Felipe in River Oaks, known for having elegant charm unlike anywhere else in town. Legendary restaurateur Eloise Adams Jones opened it in 1973 to serve her elevated Southern and Gulf Coast recipes. As Ouisie’s Table grew, Eloise partnered with long time general manager, Wafi Dinari, for several years, with Wafi buying the restaurant outright from her after her retirement. To this day, he ensures that her legacy of upscale dishes, exemplary attention to detail and excellent hospitality is preserved while evolving to meet the expectations of today’s guests.

For Houston Restaurant Weeks, Ouisie’s Table is serving three special menus at lunch, dinner and brunch. The $20, two-course lunch includes an appetizer choice of the Soup Du JourCrispy Crab Cakes with corn relish, peppy house jalapeño tartar and cocktail sauces, or Roasted Beet Salad with the unexpected additions of fresh spinach, raspberries, feta cheese and toasted almonds, and finished with a bright balsamic vinaigrette. The entrée highlights include Lemon & Orange Zest Crusted Grouper with braised fennel and corn relish, a hearty, eight-ounce portion of Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf kicked up with chipotle ketchup and paired with silky mashed potatoes and tender glazed carrots, and Ouisie’s popular Chicken Fried Chicken With The Works: black peppercorn milk gravy, mashed potatoes and mustard greens.

The $20 Houston Restaurant Weeks brunch brings its own decadent delights. Begin with the soup of the day or choose between the earthy Cornmeal Pancake & Egg with crumbled bacon and green onion or the crisp and citrusy Orange & Fennel Salad full of texture from fresh frisée lettuce, sweet red grapes, zesty red onions, toasted almonds and julienne radishes in a house dressing. The second-course options include the Mediterranean Omelet filled with artichoke hearts, black olives, feta cheese and heirloom tomatoes and a side of sautéed spinach, and Short Rib Benedict featuring a toasted English muffin, baby arugula, chipotle hollandaise and breakfast potatoes. For a sweeter start to the day, try the French Toast With Walnuts that marries indulgent egg- and cream-soaked bread grilled until golden then topped with warm Grand Marnier syrup. It comes with crisp bacon and scrambled eggs.

The $35, three-course dinner generates a $5 donation to the food bank and is a terrific value for trying some of our most decadent dishes. The appetizer choices include Soup Du Jour, Orange & Fennel Salad and Crispy Crab Cakes, while main dishes include the thick, seven-ounce Grilled Wagyu Sirloin Steak with scalloped potatoes and wild mushrooms, Red Snapper Chermoula With Jumbo Crab Meat and brussels sprouts, or Crusted Chicken Relleno. Unlike traditional rellenos, this one comes with a filling of apricots, goat cheese, lavender, chili flakes and a side of roasted spaghetti squash. For dessert, you’ll have to make a tough decision from among the Chocolate Raspberry Mousse TorteMini Boston Cream Cake and Cocoa Panna Cotta. A portion from each Houston Restaurant Weeks meal is donated to the Houston Food Bank: $3 each at brunch and lunch and $5 at dinner.
