Curry Rendang Beef Short Ribs at Phat Eatery

The star of the meal is a set of three tender and fall-off-the-bone 24-hour braised Curry Rendang Beef Short Ribs. The ribs are accompanied by sides of Belacan Sambal-Stir Fried Green Beans, Fried Curry Potatoes and steamed jasmine rice. Each dinner also includes a bottle of wine. Customers can choose Prosecco, Cabernet or Chardonnay.

Dinners serve up to four adults and cost $75 per order. Pre-orders are highly encouraged to ensure availability, and sell out is expected. Dishes can also be purchased to cook at home with 20-minute notice notice or hot and ready-to-eat with a minimum of one hour notice while supplies last. Katy is one of the area’s fastest growing cities and its expanding restaurant scene reflects that growth and its diversity. Though these new eateries, as well as old favorites, have been forced to close dining rooms, many have shifted to takeout, curbside pickup and delivery. Take a break from cooking and support local businesses during this especially difficult time.

Our list below highlights some of the restaurants that are still open, and we will update as we learn of more. If you don’t see one of your favorites, visit their websites and social media pages to see if they are still serving customers.

Alicia’s Mexican Grille, 25725 Katy Freeway, (281) 304-1833: Call the restaurant directly and pay by phone to get 10% off a delivered order. The offerings at this Mexican restaurant include traditional Tex-Mex plates and desserts, as well as family meal packs that can feed from 5 to 7 or 10 to 12. The packs include fajitas, chile con queso and a gallon of tea or lemonade. For every $50 gift card purchased, customers get a $10 one for free. Delivery is available up to 10 miles, and farther than that via DoorDash (with no discount). The hours are from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. (be sure and call your order in at least an hour before closing time so there’s time to prepare and deliver).

Astor Farm to Table, 1520 South Mason, (832) 913-6465: Specializing in South African and Latin American cuisine,  this restaurant is offering a family-pack deal for four. The price ranges from $39.95 to $49.95, and online orders get 5% off. The entrée selections include “monster” pork chops and empanadas. Delivery direct from the restaurant within seven miles is a $4.95 fee, but there is no minimum order. The operating hours are from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Azul Seafood Tapas, 21945 Katy Freeway, (832) 437-6179: Snag family-style meals that feed four or six at this family-owned seafood restaurant. Selections include Brisket Empanadas, salmon with dill, sautéed shrimp and more. Call to place an order for takeout, curbside pickup or direct delivery within a five-mile radius. Takeout orders are 15 percent off and delivery options are available via DoorDash and GrubHub.

BB.Q Chicken Katy, 1519 S.Mason, (346) 227-2442: This Korean fried chicken eatery is offering takeout and curbside. Call between 11:30 a.m. and 10 p.m. to place your order. Delivery is available via DoorDash, ChowNow and GrubHub.

BonChon Chicken, 24437 Katy Freeway, (281) 394-9188: From noon to 8 p.m., this pan-Asian chain is offering its take on comfort food, from spicy fried chicken to Korean tacos. Call to place a takeout order and ask about its family meal special that include a dozen wings, six drumsticks, two sides and a large fried rice. Delivery is available from DoorDash, UberEats, Speedy Foods, GrubHub and Postmates.

Brett’s BBQ Shop, 606 South Mason, (281) 392-7666: Named one of Houston Food Finder’s Best New Restaurants of 2019, Brett’s is keeping “the Beast” fed with oak and is offering its smoked meats for curbside pickup only. Check out its online ordering page for daily updates and specials. Brett’s is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11:30 a.m. until sold out — so order early.

Dish Society, 23501 Cinco Ranch Boulevard, (281) 394-7555: Known for sourcing many of its ingredients locally, this casual eatery is offering its full menu including beer, wine and cocktail kits for takeout and curbside pickup between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. In addition, you can order local produce boxes, eggs, milk, bacon and more from its virtual farmers market. While you’re ordering online, you can also consider purchasing a meal for a doctor, nurse or first responder.

Eight Turn Crepe, 23119 Colonial Parkway, (832) 913-3461: Specializing in Japanese-style rice-flour crepes, this restaurant in Katy Asian Town center is offering both sweet and savory choices, such as Strawberry Nutella and Tokyo Pork Bell, for takeout and curbside pickup. Call and order between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. Delivery is available via DoorDash, GrubHub and Favor.

Fadi’s Mediterranean Grill, 21792 Katy Freeway, (832) 321-5233: Founded in 1996, Fadi’s now operates five locations in the Houston area (and two in Dallas). Backed by years of experience, all Fadi’s locations have transitioned to online ordering with options for takeout or curbside pickup. Snag favorites and daily specials such as chicken tagine, lamb shank, hummus, tabouli, kabobs, falafel and family meals that feed three to four people. Delivery is available via DoorDash, Uber Eats and GrubHub.

Local Table Katy, 22756 Westheimer Parkway, (832) 913-6150: This neighborhood favorite is offering budget-friendly Family Meal Packs for 2-4 people, with healthy options such as grilled chicken and broccoli for the kids and bottles of wine for the adults. Mala Sichuan, 23119 Colonial Parkway, (832) 767-0911: This spin-off location of the acclaimed Sichuan restaurant in Chinatown a great source of spicy, family-style dishes. Go online to view the menu, then call for details. The hours are from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and delivery is available via Favor and UberEats.

Orleans Seafood Kitchen, 20940 Katy Freeway: This Creole and Cajun seafood restaurant is offering 10-percent off all curbside pickup orders until regular operations can resume. In addition, it’s continuing to run its usual daily specials. Senior citizens get 20-percent off on Tuesdays, kids eat free for each adult meal purchased on Wednesdays and everyone gets 20% off for Family Day Sunday. In addition, get five pounds of crawfish for $25, 10 for $45 and 15 for $65. All crawfish packs come with potatoes and corn alongside. There’s also the Shrimpfest: 24 fresh Gulf brown shrimp with fries or dirty rice for $18.99. The full menu is available, and the third-party delivery options include Toast, Speedy Food, DoorDash and ChowNow. (Note that the discount does not apply to delivery orders.) The operating hours are from noon to 9 p.m. daily.

Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille, 23501 Cinco Ranch, (281) 347-3600: The Houston-grown steakhouse chain has a lot to offer at this time, so strap in.  It’s open for phone orders and curbside pickup from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The menu is online. An extra day and extended hours have been added for the famous pork chop lunch. The three-bone chop along with whipped potatoes and applesauce is available to go for only $16 on both Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Add an extra individual side for $5.) From 4 to 9 p.m. on Sundays, there’s a three-course riff on the pork chop meal, too, that adds a salad and dessert. All week long, there’s a $29, two-course lunch menu (entrée plus the diner’s choice of salad, side or dessert) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Another new addition that is good for a hearty dinner at home is the $32 Heat & Eat meal: a 16-ounce Caramelized Prime Rib topped with Perry’s signature steak butter and whipped potatoes. Add a packaged wedge salad for an additional $7. A 15% gratuity is automatically included to care for the staff. As if all that wasn’t enough to choose from, there’s also a three-course dinner for $45 and a four-course for $50. To drink alongside your food order, check out the new $45 cocktail kits that make six drinks each, such as the Jameson Mocha Old Fashioned or Smoky Rita. You can also check out the half-off deal on Perry’s Reserve Wines, or take 25% off any bottle in inventory. During “Social Distancing Hour” between 3 and 7 p.m., take half-off classic bar bites such as Colossal Shrimp Cocktail, Beef & Blue and Pork Chop Bites. Finally, a $125 gift card purchase snags a $25 bonus. As far as which deal to choose first: there are worse decisions to have to make.

Phat Eatery, 23119 Colonial Parkway in Katy Asian Town Center, (832) 913-6382: Want to eat now and also have some extra prepared food to take home? Buy a hot serving of Phat Eatery’s Curry Chicken or Beef Rendang and get a vacuum-sealed pack of two portions to enjoy at home. Two large Curry Potatoes and rice come alongside. Russo’s New York Pizzeria & Italian Kitchen, 20900 Katy Freeway, (281) 599-7492 and 1708 Spring Green Boulevard, (832) 981-7727: The Katy outlets of this local New York-style pizzeria chain is offering takeout, curbside pickup and delivery by its own drivers, just call or place an order online. Order $10 or more and receive 20-percent off delivery orders. In addition, Russo’s is offering its Family Meal Deal for $49 (normally $85). Third-party delivery is available via UberEats, DoorDash and Favor.

Samurai Noodle, 24025 Katy Freeway, (281) 394-7303: This casual restaurant’s point of pride is its meticulous, authentic bowls of ramen with housemade noodles. The Kinoko (Mushroom) Shouyu — Tokyo ramen served with King Trumpet, White Beech and Button Mushrooms, wok-tossed with a hint of butter and seasoned with white pepper and Spicy Shoyu Tonkotsu, a blend of both Shouyu and Tonkotsu broth, and made with wavy noodles, seared pork belly, half a flavored egg, naruto, marinated bamboo, bean sprouts, green onions, nori and spicy garlic sauce, are only two options on the extensive menu. Samurai is offering pick up by customers (call to place an order) or delivery via UberEats, GrubHub, ChowNow, DoorDash, PostMates and Favor.

Tacos A Go Go, 23701 Cinco Ranch Boulevard, (281) 665-1085: From 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., the Katy location of this classic Houston taqueria is serving a full array of tacos from breakfast tacos to pork guisada for takeout and curbside pickup. It is also offering family packs that feed four, cocktail kits and the opportunity to Buy Tacos for Heros. Make a $5 donation to help provide meals to doctors, nurses and first responders. Texadelphia, 1321 North Westgreen, (281) 676-4940: The Texas-style Philly cheesesteak shop is offering 15% off curbside and pickup orders by phone. Catering orders are 10 percent off. Third-party delivery (no discount) is available via Grubhub, DoorDash, and Postmates. To place an order, please call during the following hours: Sunday through Thursday from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM and Friday and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Thai Cottage Katy, 19610 Katy Freeway, (281) 398-0701: Founded in 1997, the Katy outpost of this local mini-chain is offering classics such as pad thai, Tom Yum Soup, Thai Curry for curbside pickup and takeout. Just call or order online. Delivery is available via DoorDash and Favor.

Tobiuo Sushi and Bar, 23501 Cinco Ranch Boulevard, (281) 394-7156: One of the Houston area’s most acclaimed sushi restaurants has converted to takeout, curbside pickup and direct delivery within five miles. A large portion of its menu is still available including chicken katsu, pork belly yakitori, sashimi and specialty rolls such as Sumo Sumo and the Texas Two Step. In addition, Tobiuo is offering a variety of Family Meals that serve from two (the Date Night) to five, as well as cocktail kits, sake, beer and wine. Call between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. to place your order.

Yummy Crawfish & Oyster Bar, 23119 Colonial Parkway, (281) 665-7623: Looking for crawfish and seafood? Yummy’s, located in Katy’s Asian Town Center, is serving it up curbside. Check their social media for specials and then call in your order. Delivery is free within five miles and $3.49 between five and 12 miles.

Yummy Pho & Bo Ne, 23119 Colonial Parkway, (832) 437-0486: Yummy Crawfish’s sister restaurant located in Katy’s H Mart is dishing out Vietnamese comfort food for takeout, curbside pickup and delivery, free within five miles and $3.49 between five and 12 miles. Call to place your order.
