Game Burger Friday is a 12-year Rainbow Lodge tradition! These aren’t your average burgers. The juicy patties are made with Executive Chef Mark Schmidt’s custom blend of elk, venison and ribeye for a splurge-worthy meal at a stellar price. The burgers are just $14 each, and come with housemade potato chips. (Substitute fries for $2). Burger toppings change every week, and these are announced on the website each Wednesday. Burgers are available for dine-in and takeout beginning at 11 a.m. on Fridays until sold out.

Every good lunch menu has a burger, and Chef Schmidt felt like this use of our game meat and beef trim was a perfect burger for Rainbow Lodge,” said owner Donnette Hansen. To make these, Schmidt and his team expertly blend trimmings from larger cuts of elk, venison and beef ribeye that were prepared during the week. The ratio of meat changes weekly, and the staff test each week’s patty on Thursdays to ensure the fat and seasonings are well-balanced. The patties are seared to perfection and tucked into a toasted Challah bun.

Each burger is incredibly tender and juicy, with rich, deep flavor. The meat alone is worth a trip to Rainbow Lodge, but the toppings really take things to the next level. Hansen says that these are inspired by the seasons, such as ripe heirloom tomatoes in summer or green chiles when it’s harvest-time in New Mexico. There are customer favorites, too, that make repeat appearances, such as Pimento Cheese, Mushroom Fondue, Red and Green New Mexico Chile + Cheddar and the “’merican”  made with bacon and American cheese.

Some of the city’s most acclaimed palates have a thing for them too, as praised in Alison Cook’s list of the greatest cheeseburgers in Houston from the Houston Chronicle.
