Where to Dine for Mother’s Day 2021 in Houston

This year, Mother’s Day is on Sunday, May 9 and many Houston-area restaurants are ready to help celebrate all kinds of moms with specials such as complimentary cocktails and flowers. Whether you opt for dine-in or to-go, you can honor Mom with an assortment of delicious options.

Cypress

Marvino’s Italian Steakhouse, 24002 Northwest Freeway: The Italian steakhouse has a special three-course brunch on Sunday, May 9. Choose from appetizers such as bacon-wrapped scallops, lobster bisque or Mother’s Salad of kale, lettuce, radicchio, mangoes and strawberries; entrées such as Norwegian salmon served Oscar style with hollandaise sauce, Filet Mignon Benedict and linguine with sautéed shrimp and crab; and dessert options such as ricotta cheesecake and tuxedo chocolate cake. Downtown

Downtown Aquarium, 410 Bagby: Looking for a great option on Mother’s Day that can keep the kids entertained? This restaurant by Landry’s with aquatic exhibits, games, rides and more is serving a three-course brunch. It is $45 per guest with choice of a starter, main course and dessert. Choose from selections such as house or Caesar salad, Monterey chicken, seafood pasta Alfredo, blood orange salmon and mixed-berry cheesecake. Call (713) 224-3474 to reserve a table.

Guard and Grace, 500 Dallas: This trendy space is including some special holiday additions to its brunch menu. Selections include Lobster Eggs Benedict; Smoked Wagyu Brisket Hash with scrambled eggs, tomato gravy, Gruyere and fries; and Texas French Toast with pecan butter, bourbon syrup and berries. Each mom receives a flower upon arrival for her special day. Xochi, 1777 Walker: Chef Hugo Ortega is crafting a three-course, prix fixe brunch menu on Sunday, May 9. Choose from appetizers such as corn empanadas with hoja santa, shredded chicken and mole amarillo or a fresh corn tamal with cotija cheese, cream and chili powder. Entrées include chilaquiles (criollo corn totopos in green tomatillo sauce, grilled skirt steak, and topped with two sunny-side-up eggs) or Cañita (slow-braised, bacon-wrapped pork shank, huaxmole, quelites and roasted potatoes). Unique desserts include a lemon tart with meringue, lemon gel cubes, strawberry gel, pine nut ice cream and fresh fruit. The cost is $52 per adult and $15 per child, plus tax, tip and gratuity. EaDo

Indianola, 1201 St. Emanuel: A special Mother’s Day brunch on May 9 brings together new flavors and old favorites. The multi-course, prix fixe menu offers selections such as pull-apart rolls, avocado toast, Herb-Crusted Black Angus Filet, “Honey” Weber’s Buttermilk Pancakes, Blue Crab Frittata, duck fat-roasted potatoes and Cherry Vanilla Scones. Galleria/Uptown

Bloom and Bee, 1600 West Loop South: This Post Oak Hotel restaurant offers a special three-course, prix fixe menu on May 9. Start by sharing the Burrata with Neapolitan tomato sauce. Then, select from main course options such as Lobster Benedict, Black Forest Ham and Gruyere Buckwheat Crepe, carved prime rib au jus or Quiche Lorraine. Each guest can choose a dessert from the restaurant’s assorted pastries box. The cost is $65 per person and the full menu is online. Make a reservation on the website or call (346) 227-5139.

La Table, 1800 Post Oak: This swanky French spot is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mother’s Day. The a la carte options on the special menu include dishes such as French Onion Soup, Mixed Mushroom Flatbread, herb-roasted chicken with gnocchi and roasted mushrooms, grilled yellowfin tuna with green beans and fingerling potatoes and filet au poivre (filet in peppercorn sauce). The dessert course features options such as tarte tartin, a Fuji apple tarte with vanilla ice cream, and Flan Parisienne, a French custard tarte with caramel sauce.  See the full menu here and make reservations online.

TRIBUTE at The Houstonian, 111 North Post Oak Lane: Those who want a perfect Mother’s Day brunch at home will love the to-go pack that chef Neal Cox and his team have created. It includes charcuterie and artisan cheese with fresh berries, Marcona almonds and fennel flatbread crackers, Kings Inn Salad with Grilled Gulf Shrimp, and a classic Gruyere and Spinach Quiche. The feast feeds four and costs $99 plus tax. You can also add a Raspberry White Chocolate Mousse Cake to the order for an additional $65. It’s an almond cake with raspberry and white chocolate mousse and accented with crunchy white chocolate “pearls”. Order online and pick up on Saturday, May 8 at the hotel valet stand between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Greenway/Upper Kirby

Kiran’s, 2925 Richmond: From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., this upscale Indian restaurant offers a special Mother’s Day brunch. The multi-course menu includes choices such as Spring Toast with Avocado and Sweet Peas, Jumbo Lump Crab Cake with Mustard Seeds and Curry Leaves, Dover Sole with a Mango Beurre Blanc and Tropical Popsicles. Woodshed Smokehouse, 3728 Wakeforest: Bring Mom for celebrity chef Tim Love’s take on barbecue and the restaurant’s “Moms and Mimosas” special. It features a pitcher of the brunch-favorite cocktail for $15. It’s available on Sunday, May 9 from open to close.

Tony’s, 3755 Richmond: One of Houston’s favorite spots for special occasions, this Greenway Plaza classic has a three-course, pre-fixe Mother’s Day brunch. Selections include Tony’s Eggs Benedict, Branzino with Tuscan beans and a lemon caper sauce, and the restaurant’s famous Wyatt Salad with lobster, crab, shrimp and mango dressed with a citrus ginger vinaigrette. The full menu is online. The cost is $75 for adults and $25 for children 12 and under. Reservations are required, and can be made by calling (713) 622-6778. Curbside pickup is also available for those who wish to get brunch options to-go.

Heights/Greater Heights

Harold’s Restaurant, 350 West 19th: Choose from a sit-down feast indoors or on a beautiful terrace, to-go family meals and refreshing cocktails. All dine-in moms are greeted with a complimentary Mom-mosa, and all guests receive a Crispy Shrimp Étouffée Ball starter. From there, choose appetizers such as Chicken & Sausage Gumbo, crisp Butterhead salad and Lobster Crostini. The entrée choices include Big Mama’s Breakfast, Pesto Crusted Lamb Chops and Fresh Mother’s Day Catch. Sweet endings are strawberry shortcake, chocolate mousse topped with pecan tuiles and Granny Cake. In addition, $2 from every meal supports the Houston Food Bank!

The three Family Meals to go start at $45 and feed two to six. Choose from main courses of Mama’s Southern Fried Chicken, Mother’s Day Lamb Chops, or Mama-Mia with Beef Bolognese Lasagna. Mastrantos, 927 Studewood: A special, four-course prix fixe brunch menu combines restaurant favorites and some Mother’s Day-only creations. Begin with a Texas Summer Fruit Salad, then choose second and third courses with selections such as Taleggio Scarpinocc (handmade pasta stuffed with Taleggio cheese), Rustic Carrot Hummus served with grilled and crispy baby carrots and spices, Spinach Fusilli in a pesto butter sauce, and grilled salmon with corn succotash and gremolata. Mutiny Wine Room, 1124 Usener: The cozy wine bar has a great experience for Mom. For $85 per person, get a four-wine blind tasting, led by a Mutiny Wine Bar wine steward. Each selection is also paired with a small dish. When the tasting is over, guests can select their favorite and receive a bottle to take home. Phat Eatery, 23119 Colonial Parkway: Put a Malaysian street food spin on Mother’s Day celebrations with this Katy favorite’s Mother’s Day Feed Me Meal Pack. Mix and match five main courses, from options including Curry-Braised Oxtail; Beef Rendang or Sizzling Beef; Hainanese Chicken, Mango Chicken or Basil Chicken; and Sizzling Tofu or garlic stir-fried green beans. Selections come with Jasmine rice. The cost is $68, and all orders must be made in advance. Order online.

Rainforest Cafe, 5000 Katy Mills Circle: This spot is sure to fascinate the kids with a jungle-like setting. For Mother’s Day, it’s serving a $35, three-course menu available from May 7 to May 9. Guests may select an appetizer, entrée and dessert. Options include favorite such as the Paradise House Salad (mixed greens, carrots, Roma tomatoes and cucumber), Flat Iron Coconut Shrimp, Aloha Salmon and Shrimp with a tangy Hawaiian glaze and key lime pie. Orleans Seafood Kitchen, 20940 Katy Freeway.: Put some Cajun spice into Mother’s Day with this neighborhood spot’s gumbo, chargrilled oysters and po-boys. On Mother’s Day, take advantage of the restaurant’s “Family Day” promotion, which entitles guests to 20% off all dine-in and to-go orders. Sunday hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Lazybrook/Timbergrove/Shady Acres

Rainbow Lodge, 2011 Ella: Houston’s best-loved spot for wild game in a beautiful, natural setting has a special Mother’s Day brunch available from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The three-course meal includes a choice of appetizers such as a gem lettuce wedge salad with bacon and avocado, Fried Texas Quail Bites and marinated beefsteak tomatoes. Entrées reflect land and sea with selections such Rainbow Trout Fillet with Lump Crab and Pecan Brown Butter, Fusilli Pasta with Wild Boar Sausage Crumbles, brioche French toast and lobster risotto. Dessert choices include dark chocolate mousse with raspberry whipped cream and a Passion Fruit-Pistachio Mousse Cake. The cost is $55 per person, plus tax, tip and gratuity. Brennan’s of Houston, 3300 Smith: Known for its classic Creole cuisine, Brennan’s offers a special, three-course Mother’s Day brunch on Sunday, May 9. Choose from selections such as Snapping Turtle Soup, seafood gumbo, Crawfish Boudin Stuffed Quail, shrimp and grits, and Brennan’s Bananas Foster or Creole bread pudding. Memorial

Ember and Greens Restaurant and Bar, 9403 Katy Freeway: The healthy comfort-food eatery is debuting new dishes for its a la carte Mother’s Day brunch. Order selections such as chicken and waffles with homemade Buffalo maple syrup (a combination of maple syrup and hot wing sauce), E&G Eggs Benedict and a Greek Yogurt Parfait with mixed berries. Brunch is available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and all items are available for take-out. For those who might have forgotten to get Mom a gift, the restaurant has boxes of chocolate from local, family-owned chocolatier Mostly Chocolate & Catering for sale. Reservations are encouraged. Tipping Point Restaurant and Terrace, 9787 Katy Freeway: Located in the swanky Hotel Zaza, the elegant dining space offers a host of brunch options from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 9. Selections include chicken and waffles; Salmon Bagelettes with lox, crème fraîche, capers, red onion and dill; and pan-seared scallops served with cream potatoes, brown sugar, arugula, citrus supreme and radish. Treebeards, 9655 Katy Freeway: The Southern comfort-food favorite locale is giving all dine-in moms a complimentary mimosa on Sunday, May 9. There is also a shrimp and grits special until 3 p.m. Make at-home celebrations extra special with a housemade Italian cream, carrot or yellow cake. Cake prices range from $40 to $75.

Montgomery/Lake Conroe

Margaritaville Lake Resort, Lake Conroe, 600 Margaritaville Parkway, Montgomery: The Del Lago ballroom at the Jimmy Buffett-themed resort is hosting its first-ever Mother’s Day brunch, complete with omelet and carving stations, a Build-Your-Own Grits Bar with accompaniments such as cheddar cheese and shrimp, charcuterie, a salad bar enhanced with tropical fruit, and a special kid’s corner with French toast sticks and other kid-friendly fare. The cost is $65 for adults, $29 for kids ages five through 12 and free for children under five. a’bouzy, 2300 Westheimer: Make Mom feel like a rockstar with an ounce of DR Delicacy Premium Hackleback Sturgeon Caviar served with traditional accoutrements, two crystal Veuve Clicquot champagne flutes and a bottle of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut NV. Gatsby’s Prime Steakhouse, 4319 Montrose: The latest addition to Houston’s steakhouse scene in the former Pax Americana and B.B. Lemon space, this clubby restaurant has a three-course dinner that includes a Caesar salad, 8-ounce filet mignon served Oscar-style and New York Cheesecake. The cost is $75 per person, and dinner is available on Sunday, May 9 from 5 to 9 p.m. Reservations can be made through Open Table.

Georgia James, 1100 Westheimer: This restaurant from Chris Shepherd’s Underbelly Hospitality group is serving Mother’s Day brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. In addition to the regular menu, there are a few specials. Add a loaded baked potato, creamed collards, Yorkshire pudding, and traditional prime rib accompaniments of horseradish cream and jus for $20 to any steak. Mimosas are $10, and a Pork Belly Benedict Bagel and honey bun have been added to the menu exclusively for the special day. Make reservations online.

One Fifth Houston, 1658 Westheimer: Time is running out to enjoy this five-year rotating restaurant concept, which is now focused on southern comfort dishes. For Mother’s Day, the special brunch dishes added to the menu are Cornflake-Crusted French Toast with strawberry jam and maple syrup, Mama Staph’s Quiche with crispy bacon, spinach, green onion, pepper jack cheese, Not-So Eggs Benedict with potato rosti, poached eggs, crab roe butter and smoked trout roe and HBCB, a honey butter chicken biscuit with arugula salad.

Traveler’s Table, 520 Westheimer: The two-course, prix fixe Mother’s Day menu includes a Bloody Mary, Mimosa or mocktail. Choose options such as Custard Lava French Toast, Morning Churros and Breakfast Bread Pudding. The cost is $45 per person, and the special is available for dine-in or to-go on Sunday, May 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those dining in can also opt for additional mimosa specials for $5 per glass or $20 for a carafe.

Northwest Houston

Grand Tuscany Hotel, 12801 Northwest Freeway: Shower mom and grandma with an extravagant brunch in The Brasserie at Grand Tuscany Hotel in Spring Branch. The chic locale channels the opulence of exquisite Italian destinations and is a stylish way to honor loved ones. The festivities are from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mother’s Day and include free roses for mothers and all-you-can-eat brunch with two mimosas or soft drinks included. The extensive menu includes omelet and waffle stations, salads, biscuits & gravy, assorted pastries, London Broil carving station, blackened fish, dessert and coffee stations and more, plus a cash bar. Additional perks are a red carpet photo booth, live music, additional entertainment and free parking! It is $49 per person plus tax and gratuity. Four Friends Tearoom, 3816 Broadway, Pearland: This cozy restaurant and gift shop hosts a special high tea event on Saturday, May 8. The cost is $38 per person and includes hot and cold tea, soup, salad, finger sandwiches, scones with jam and dessert. Each person will also receive a tea cup to take home. Killen’s, 6425 West Broadway, Pearland: Usually closed on Sundays, the elegant steakhouse is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for Mom and family to dine in style. Guests can select options such as the Japanese A5 Wagyu Filet Mignon, a New York Strip Flight and the Rosewood Ranch Domestic Wagyu Ribeye from the restaurant’s extensive menu. Pair these with incredible reds off Killen’s wine list. Reserve online.

Rice Village

Roma, 2347 University: On Sunday, May 9, this cozy Italian restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and augments its regular menu with several specials created with Mom in mind. Look for selections that highlight Roma’s approach to authentic Italian cuisine, such as fettuccine with bolognese sauce, Smoked Gnocchi with Shrimp in a savory saffron sauce and Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli topped with truffles, mushroom and Italian sausage. River Oaks

Liberty Kitchen and Oysterette, 4224 San Felipe: Treat mom to brunch at this chic spot, which is serving its traditional menu. The restaurant’s also added a fun Mother’s Day addition: Lavender Pancakes with honey crème anglaise and accented by lemon brûlée wheels for $14. Ouisie’s Table, 3939 San Felipe: The Houston favorite has created a menu with moms in mind for Sunday, May 9. A la carte selections include crispy crab cakes, Blueberry Spinach Salad with Scallops, a Short Rib Omelet, chicken fried chicken and shrimp and cheese grits. In addition, the restaurant offers Marquis De La Mysteriale Champagne for $14 a glass or $52 for a bottle. Brunch is dine-in only and there will be no take-out on Mother’s Day. Washington Ave

Max’s Wine Dive, 4720 Washington: On Sunday, May 9, the restaurant offers a special addition to its regular menu. Order the Pan-Seared Wild Flounder, which comes with a side of heirloom carrots and wilted spinach, and is topped with lemon-caper beurre blanc $32. The special is available at the restaurant from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Woodlands

CRU, 9595 Six Pines: This posh wine bar offers a three-course, prix fixe brunch for dine-in or take out. Choose from items such as Crab and Avocado Toast, Roast Beef Tenderloin and Eggs, Parmesan-Crusted Lemon Sole and tiramisu. The cost for dine-in is $45 per person; to-go orders cost $80 and serve two. To-go orders must be placed by Saturday, May 8 at 4 p.m. Call (281) 465-9463 to order or reserve a table. This Mother’s Day special is also available at the location at 2800 Kirby.

Fielding’s Local, 26400 Kuykendahl: Cary Attar’s restaurant focused on Texas cuisine is offering opportunities to celebrate Mother’s Day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., as well as take-out meal packs. The festivities start with brunch from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring mimosa flights and there’s also live music from Justin LeBlanc from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The special entrées are Truffle Croque “Madame” Brioche with cheese, ham, black truffle and a fried egg and Challah French Toast Brulée with chocolate hazelnut custard, sweet ricotta and blueberries. There are featured mother’s day dishes for dinner, too: Lobster Newberg and Deep Dish Sundae with housemade pistachio, vanilla and chocolate gelatos, candied hazelnuts, blackberries, vanilla sugar cookie, raspberry marshmallow, chantilly, cocoa coulis and caramel sea salt.

The takeout options cost $49 for two people (add additional orders if needed) and include Coconut Milk & Oat Parfait, Lox Deviled EggsBrisket & Sweet Potato Hash, an English muffin with butter and jam, and Challah French Toast with hazelnut chocolate and sweet ricotta. Orders must be placed by Thursday, May 5 at 3 p.m. and picked up between 2 and 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 8. Visit the website for reservations and additional information.

Sticky’s Chicken, 2311 Edwards: Those looking to host a Mother’s Day party at home will love this casual spot’s Family Tray options that cost $65 each. The first option includes 25 wings, choice of Garlic Rice or seasoned fries, and a pint of Truffle Mac and Cheese. Brick House Tavern + Tap: All locations offer a four-course meal, available from May 7 to 9. Select one snack, salad, entrée and dessert for $30. Hungry’s Cafe, 2356 Rice and 14714 Memorial: This favorite casual dining spot serves its regular menu on Mother’s Day, with selections such as Crab Cakes Benedict and Beef Tenderloin Fajita Salad. Every mom who dines in receives a complimentary Mimosa.

Sylvia’s Enchilada Kitchen, 6401 Woodway and 1140 Eldridge: This Tex-Mex classic is open for in-house dining on Mother’s Day and is serving the regular menu along with a host of specials. Consider the Huevos la Mexicana brunch platter featuring scrambled eggs with diced onions and jalapeños, skillet potatoes, beans and two flour or corn tortillas. There is also the Donna Enchilada Dinner: ground beef enchiladas topped with Sylvia’s signature chili gravy. Those wishing to celebrate Mom at home can instead order the Mother’s Parrillada take-out package. It includes mesquite-grilled beef fajitas, mesquite-grilled chicken fajitas, mesquite-grilled quail, a choice of four enchiladas (pick from classic cheese or chicken with salsa verde), guacamole, rice, beans, corn or flour tortillas, chips and salsa and tres leches cake. It serves four and the cost is $79.95. Add four grilled shrimp for $9. There’s also The South Texas Mesquite BBQ Picnic Pack which come with a mesquite-grilled whole chicken, mesquite-grilled baby back ribs, Sylvia’s famous potato salad, Mexican rice, charro beans, guacamole, corn tortillas, sopapillas, and chips and salsa.
