22 New Restaurants Are Participating In Houston Restaurant Weeks 2019 — Updated
Houston Restaurant Weeks (HRW) is one of the premier annual fundraisers for the Houston Food Bank, which is the largest food bank in the United States. From August 1 to September 2, this month-long event gives diners the opportunity to try many of the Houston area’s best restaurants at wallet-friendly prices. A portion of the proceeds from each HRW brunch, lunch and dinner ordered is donated directly to the Houston Food Bank: $3 from each brunch and lunch, and $5 or $7 for each dinner, depending on the dinner’s price. Brunch and lunch cost $20 and dinner is either $35 or $45.
While there are many regular participants that have been part of this charity extravaganza for years, new eateries from all over the Greater Houston area join the line-up annually. This year, 21 new restaurants have signed on. Businesses have until July 31 to participate so it’s possible more will be added. Should that happen, we’ll update this list. All restaurants participating in Houston Restaurant Weeks and the menus for each are listed online. Diners should check which dishes are available during what meal times at each restaurant, as lunch, brunch and dinner options often differ. Also, some restaurants are only offering HRW menus at lunch or dinner, while others are offering these during all three mealtimes.
A Few Special Picks
One notable new participant is Indianola, 1201 St. Emmanuel, one of three Agricole Hospitality concepts participating. Indianola’s cuisine is often described as New American or Southern-International fusion. Its HRW brunch offerings include a Texas Peach Salad or Slow-cooked Pork Ribs for a first course and Moroccan Eggs or Crispy Chicken Biscuit for the second course. Their dinner menu has three courses — including Fig Toast as a first-course option, a five-ounce 44 Farms sirloin steak as a second-course option, and their well-regarded Chocolate Trifle as one of the dessert options.
TRIS, Houston Food Finder’s pick for Best New Restaurant of 2018, is also participating. Located in The Woodlands, its HRW menu offers both dinner and lunch. For meat-loving dinner visitors, start strong with the Akaushi Beef & Lamb Meatball and then dive into the all-natural, chili-rubbed pork chop with jalapeño polenta, pineapple lime butter and crispy okra. For dessert, take special note of the beautiful, housemade chocolates.
Another notable newcomer is ROMA, 2347 University, which is a new concept from Shanon Scott, who was a long-time participant in HRW at Sud Italia. Scott’s transition from Sicilian to Roman Italian cuisine, combined with more options and a broader range of prices has been well-received by new diners as well as fans of Sud Italia. Dinner options include such items as the Polpette di Manzo — meatballs with mozzarella, basil, and pecorino over marinara; Gnocchi Affumicati allo Zafferano e Gamberi — smoked gnocchi pasta with shrimp in a saffron sauce; or Stufato di Manzo, a Tuscan-style short rib stew with carrots and potatoes.
