Sylvia of Sylvia’s Enchilada Kitchen teaches Tex-Mex essentials
September 14, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm$65
HOUSTON… The array of great Tex-Mex dishes form an almost endless list of great dishes developed from regions as diverse as the Gulf shores to the Southwestern desert and from border towns to West Texas ranches. Still, no matter how diverse the menu, almost every Texas-Mexican kitchen has a few certain dishes that would make the kitchens incomplete without them.
That’s the lesson Sylvia’s Enchilada Kitchens’ owner Sylvia Casares will be teaching Saturday, Sept. 14 when she leads a class making the basic foods that are a must for every Tex-Mex kitchen.
From 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, Sylvia will be showing the step-by-step ways to making flour tortillas, carne guisada, refried beans, charro beans, guisado beans and chili piquin salsa.
The cost for the hands-on class is $65 per person which includes all materials, the class and a meal. To register, go online at www.sylviasenchiladas.com, or call 832-230-3842. The classes will be held at Sylvia’s Enchilada Kitchen at 1140 Eldridge Parkway.
Recipes for all these dishes are also found in her “The Enchilada Queen Cookbook,” by St. Martin’s Griffin.
The next class will be Sept. 28 with step-by-step instructions on backyard grilling South Texas-style.
