Spec’s in Downtown Houston Hosts a Grab & Go Lunch With Free Brooklyn Brewery Beer Tasting
June 10 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
On Monday, June 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Spec’s flagship store at 2410 Smith in downtown Houston is hosting a grab-and-go lunch special with a free in-store sample of both the food and a suggested beer pairing. The lunch special is Blackened Swai fish topped with étouffée served with dirty rice and broccoli, and the recommended pairing is Local 1 from Brooklyn Brewery.
While guests are welcome to dine at the tables at the front of Spec’s, “resident beer nerd” Joey Williams emphasizes that the downtown superstore is keeping customer convenience and limited lunch periods in mind. “We are packaging this lunch special in a way that will allow us to have it available for grab-and-go guests and hope they’ll also try the featured beer and want to take a bottle home.”
Williams was inspired to recommend the lunch-and-beer tasting idea after he successfully paired several Belgian strong golden ales with his first try at making Huachinango a la Veracruzana, or Veracruz-style Red Snapper.
“I know other retailers have prepared meals,” said Williams, “but the beer/pairing specific nature I think makes this unique and worth attention.” Williams hopes to offer this type of lunchtime tasting as a regular event on Mondays in the future.
