For One Day Only, Eat This Decadent & Historic Dessert at Bistro Provence
March 15 is the 155th birthday of a classic and decadent French dessert: Poires (or Pears) Belle Helene. It’s chocolate-covered pears with almonds, ice cream and whipped cream; essentially a luxurious parfait. To mark the occasion, for one day only diners can order it during lunch or dinner at Bistro Provence.
Poires Belle Helene was created in 1864 by famous chef Auguste Escoffier. He created the magnificent desert after the opening of ‘La Belle Helene,’ an operetta by Jacques Offenbach. The opera tells the story of the prince Paris of Troy running off with Helen and beginning the long and tragic Trojan Wars.
Bistro Provence is making the opera-born Pears Belle Helene dessert available for both lunch and dinner. Lunch hours on Fridays are from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and dinner runs from 5 to 11 p.m. Call (713) 827-8008 for reservations or send an email.
