Every month since it opened its doors almost seven years ago, Etoile Cuisine et Bar in Uptown Park has been noticeably serving Houston’s many lovers of good French food. More quietly, however, the restaurant has also been serving many of city’s charitable causes by raising money each month.
As part of a monthly commitment to raising money for local charities, Chef-owner Philippe Verpiand creates two special prix fixe menus for dinner and weekend brunch. Sales from each go to a designated group that typically involve children and animals. For July 2019, funds will benefit For the month of July, the restaurant has joined the escalating efforts to end family violence by raising funds for the Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse (AVDA), an Houston organization which advocates for the safety and self-determination of victims, promotes accountability for the abusers and fosters a community response to the crime.
The cost for this dinner is $65 per person plus tax and gratuity, from which $7 will go to AVDA.
Similarly, there is a special brunch menu on Saturday and Sundays. This three-course meal sells for $34 per person plus tax and gratuity and provides $4 to the program for each one sold.
AVDA was founded in 1980 by the National Council of Jewish Women Greater Houston Section. It now provides legal services in both Harris and Fort Bend County, and also provides a battering prevention and intervention program, the first to be accredited in the state. The organization provides legal and other services to all domestic violence victims, regardless of citizenship status.
