Introducing the wines from this extraordinary winery will be Jean-Philippe Guy, the proprietor of French Country Wines. A treat for Houstonians seeking hard-to-find French wines, French Country Wines was established in 2006 and was established as a winery to allow the owner to work directly with small vineyards and winemakers all across France. Some of the wines it carries are not imported anywhere else in the United States. It has received international accolades for its selections and promotions of French wines. The winery is located two blocks east of Kirby not far from Rice Village and hosts complimentary wine tastings every Saturday from noon-6 p.m.

Domaine Grangeon is an example of the exceptional wines it carries. For generations, the Reynouard family has worked the Domaine Grangeon vineyards on their estate in Southeastern France, producing a variety of acclaimed wines. Among the Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Gamay, Viognier and Chardonnay grapes growing on their hillside vineyards is the very rare Chatus grapes, a variety which faced extinction in the early 20th century. The existence of this grape has given the winery a particular distinction in the world of wines. This wine will be served with the main course. Son Christophe Reynouard grew up on the estate, working with his family in all phases of production, but eventually, he set off on his own to expand his experience and his knowledge. He eventually became cellar master for the notable Condrieu producer Georges Verney. In 1998, however, her returned to take over his family’s estate in the village of Rosières in southern Ardèche. In the 20 years since, the reputation and praise for the wines produced on their 42 acres has grown substantially.

Owned by Vahid Navissi, Café Benedicte is the perfect setting for this kind of dinner. With old-world ambience, the Energy Corridor café boasts a menu with reflections of Spain, Italy, South of France, Greece and North Africa.  For more information, go to www.cafebenedicte.com.
