Where To Drink In Houston For National Wine Day — Updated

–Friday is the prelude to Memorial Day weekend — and the unofficial start of summer. Appropriately, it’s also National Wine Day: 24 hours dedicated to enjoying the fruit of the vine. (Yes, we agree that every day is that, really, but it’s nice to have a “holiday” set aside for wine lovers.)

Many Houston wine bars and restaurants are offering specials for those who want to raise a glass on this most auspicious day. Here are our picks.

Ambrosia, 2003 Lexington: There’s a super-secret special for National Wine Day. (Well, it was a secret until now.) Wish your server “Happy National Wine Day!” and get half off all bottles of sparkling wine. (Yes, diners must actually say “Happy National Wine Day” to unlock the deal.)

Emmaline, 3210 West Dallas: A sweet deal is offered — but only until 5 p.m, so get there early. Wine director Evan Turner (formerly of Helen Greek Food & Wine) says the restaurant is giving a 50-percent discount off bottles that are also offered by the glass.

Fig & Olive, 5115 Westheimer: This Galleria newcomer is offering Happy Hour pricing all day long on select wines on its by-the-glass list. Added 5/24/18 12:15 p.m..

Max’s Wine Dive, 4720 Washington: One of Houston’s original wine bars is hosting a huge “garage sale” from 5 to 8 p.m. Wine lovers can expect killer deals on bottles for retail sale. The restaurant is also hosting an artist who is painting wine glasses, making it a one-stop shop for wine lovers.

Perry’s Steakhouse and Grille’s multiple locations: Someone at the homegrown steakhouse chain noticed that National Wine Day is also National Chardonnay Day. So, of course there is a special deal on Perry Reserve Chardonnay to celebrate. Diners can enjoy a bottle for $42 (regularly $60) with the purchase of two lunch or dinner entrées. For those wanting a bit more wine, the magnum, which is 1.5 liters, is available for $58 (regularly $115) with purchase of two lunch or dinner entrées.

Sonoma Wine Bar: 801 Studewood and 2720 Richmond: Both locations of the boutique wine bar are offering $5 rose by the glass until 6:30 p.m. The Heights location opens at 11 a.m.; the Upper Kirby one at 2 p.m. Rosé is the perfect wine for Houston’s patio weather, so head on in if you like great wine at a great price. Added 5/25/18 10:35 a.m.

The Tasting Room, 1101 Uptown Park and 818 Town and Country: Both wine bar locations are offering 15-percent off selected bottles and a cheese plate, giving diners a chance to nosh and enjoy the extensive collection of wines.
