New Cocktail Destination Set to Open in Former Montrose Hot Spot

Houston’s Montrose neighborhood lost one of its favorite neighborhood haunts when Tex-Mex patio bar, La Grange, shuttered at the beginning of this year, after a nine-year run. However, Melrose, a stylish cocktail destination, is debuting in the landmark 1930s era building at 2517 Ralph later this year.

Behind the new concept are hospitality and nightlife veterans Army Sadeghi, Brandon Duliakas and Dan Wierck. Sadeghi is behind buzzy Montrose cocktail lounge, Clarkwood, while Duliakas and Wierk are principal founders of Sundown Entertainment, a local hospitality group behind some of Houston’s busiest bars and clubs including Todos Santos and Sugar Room on Washington Avenue.

Recognizing the distinctiveness of the building and the beloved neighborhood, Sadeghi noted in a statement, “This is a special building in a special place, and our goal is to create an environment and experience with longevity—something that will not only cater to the cultured diversity of Montrose, but also add to the unique tapestry of the neighborhood. While we are certainly looking to create something that feels fresh, we hope to establish a casual elegance that in many ways harkens back to the area and this historic structure’s infancy.”

Working with California-based design firm Davis Ink, the partners want to keep the integrity of the building while adding luxurious touches such as a three-sided bar and plush seating vignettes. The iconic, two-level outdoor space will be enhanced with the addition of a large tree, a koi pond and fire features.

The attention to detail and refinement also extends to the cocktails. The spirits program will be curated by an Amsterdam-based bar consultancy that works with high-end hotels and restaurants. Bar-goers can expect nearly two dozen seasonal signature cocktails—all served in top-end glassware. The food offerings will not be an afterthought, with the small bites menu overseen by culinary consultant Emmanuel Chavez, a notable name in Houston’s food scene since opening acclaimed Tatemó and earning James Beard Award nominations in 2023 and 2024.

Montrose continues to be one of Houston’s liveliest neighborhoods with no shortage of options for an outstanding meal and a nightcap. New additions to the area include the Autry Park development, Goodnight Hospitality’s The Marigold Club and cocktail lounge Sophie. The arrival of Melrose will keep Montrose’s nightlife scene abuzz.
