Mongoose versus Cobra Is Turning Into All-Day Venue Red Dwarf

1011 McGowen

For eight years, Mongoose versus Cobra, located in a historic, 105-year-old building at 1011 McGowan in midtown Houston, has served cocktails, craft beer, bar snacks and more to Houstonians. On July 1, it is becoming a new spot called RED DWARF. According to a press release, it is “named after the stars that are the coolest, longest lasting stars in the universe.”

The new venue will be a coffee bar during the day and transform into a full bar at night. The space is also going to feature local musicians and artists. RED DWARF’s hours of operation will be from 6:30 a.m. to 2:00 a.m.

Via the press release, Ian Rosenberg, owner of MvsC, said “This was an opportunity to share the space for more hours a day and with many more people.”

RED DWARF’s owners are Shan Pasha, who will act as the talent booker of musicians and artists, Sarina Pasha, who will oversee the daytime coffee shop operations and James Koby Boren, who is in charge of the nightime bar services.

Sarina Pasha says that the coffee shop services during the day include “fair trade, organic coffee and small bites prepared by local Houston food purveyors.” In the evenings, the trio are promising to continue Mongoose versus Cobra’s tradition of offering an extensive selection of cocktails and craft beer.

“The goal of RED DWARF is to create and facilitate a welcoming space for musicians and artists to showcase their work with minimal hurdles in booking, promoting, and performing,” said Shan Pasha.

“We will have something for everyone here,” said Boren. “I firmly believe that bars and venues are about conversations and connections. Our vision is to bring people from all walks of life and age groups together over common interests in music, art, unique cocktails, light bites and great beer.”

RED DWARF has both Instagram and Facebook pages set up. Its website is supposed to be coming soon, as is a calendar of events.
