“Miracle” Holiday Cocktail Bar Pop-Ups Return to Houston and Galveston

Miracle, an over-the-top, holiday-themed, cocktail bar pop-up, arrived in Houston and Galveston for the first time last year. It’s back for 2019. This year, Johnny’s Gold Brick at 2518 Yale in Houston and Daiquiri Time Out at 2701 Market in Galveston are hosting these holiday extravaganzas. (Sadly, there’s no Sippin’ Santa, the tiki-themed holiday pop-up that Lei Low hosted last year.) Both bars have transformed into Christmas wonderlands complete with wall-to-wall, ostentatious decorations, holiday music and signature cocktails that will keep the festivities going until December 30.

Started in New York City, Miracle has grown to over 100 locations around the world, including seven in Texas. “In our sixth year, we’re excited to keep making Miracle better year after year while keeping our true love for the holiday season alive,” says owner and creator Greg Boehm.

Johnny’s Gold Brick is throwing a kick-off party on November 30 where guests can pose for pictures with Santa while sipping on one of ten signature Miracle cocktails, including the Run Run Rudolph, Bad Santa and Yippie Ki Yay Mother F****r. Drinks range in price from $12 to $15 and special keepsake holiday mugs will be available for purchase, with 10% of the proceeds donated to Action Against Hunger. Patrons can also indulge in nog bottles paired with fresh baked cookies or partake in Tuesday Tamale Night while watching Christmas movies.

Miracle on the Island at Daiquiri Time Out opened November 27. It is hosting Miracle Mondays featuring Christmas themed movie nights as well as collecting toys in support of Blue Santa, the Galveston Police Department’s holiday toy drive. Plus, keep an eye out for an adult snowball fight.

New for 2019, all Miracle locations are hosting Ugly Sweater parties on December 2, with the goal of having the largest combined ugly sweater gathering in the world. Guests are encouraged to join in the revelry by donning their tackiest Christmas attire — the uglier, the better.

Additional events only at Johnny’s Gold Brick include:

• Sunday, December 8: Hogsmas 2k19 with Houston Heights Tattoo: Whole-hog barbecue will provide guests with an afternoon of smoked pork. WhistlePig Whiskey will be on site with a baby pig petting zoo and Houston Heights Tattoo will be doing Johnny’s/WhistlePig tattoos.

• Friday, December 13: Friday the 13th Super Santa Party: Johnny’s goal is to fill the entire bar with folks dressed as Santa by offering half-price Mistletoe shots to anyone in a Santa costume.

• Sunday, December 22: Snow Day Sing-a-long: Local musicians will be playing Christmas songs while guests frolic in the snow.

In addition to the special festivities, Johnny’s is also hosting a toy drive benefiting the Houston Area Women’s Center. They are accepting new toys still in the box, which can be left around the Christmas tree at the end of the bar.
