Dan Electro’s Guitar Bar, the longtime neighborhood dive and live music venue located at 1031 East 24th in Sunset Heights, quietly reopened this month. New owners Will Thomas, Devid Denenberg and Alex Jackson purchased the bar and formed the Dan Electro’s LLC last summer and have performed major renovations inside and out, with great care to maintain much of the same spirit for which it has been famous for the past 35 years.

Originally opened in 1988 by Heights Guitar founder Jim Mendenhall, Dan Electro’s has changed hands more than once in the decades since its inception. However, it has always upheld the same, community-driven approach to live rock, blues, roots and country music, and Jackson is continuing with that. They are currently seeking musical performers, as well as food trucks to operate onsite and can be reached via email.

The large backyard has been completely revived with new fences, an ancillary bar, backlighting, patio furniture and clean, open-concept landscaping highlighting the long-hidden beauty of the expansive outdoor space — with a color pallete that blend into the night sky. A second patio has been added on the opposite side of the building, and guests will soon have the opportunity to enjoy the upstairs space, which is being converted into a lounge area. Vaulted ceilings, colorful lighting and a mix of elements now brighten the interior, and improvements have been made to the stage and sound systems.

As an opening special for the next two weeks, Dan Electro’s is offering an extended happy hour from opening until 7 p.m. everyday with $4 wells and Miller Lite draft pours, wine by-the-glass and margaritas all for $5 each. In addition to a selection of affordable packaged beer and well liquor, Dan Electro’s has added a small collection of premium whiskeys and spirits, as well as draft beers from a few local breweries.

Dan Electro’s Guitar Bar is open from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. seven days a week. Follow Dan Electro’s on Instagram for updates and events.
