A Look At Bayou & Bottle, Houston’s Newest Whiskey Bar At The Four Seasons Houston

Boasting an extensive whiskey selection, comfortable leather sofas, and the world’s first Topgolf simulator, Bayou & Bottle, located in the lobby of the Four Seasons Houston, is not a normal hotel bar. We were invited to view the venue and sample food and drink offerings at a media preview night earlier this week.

The beautifully designed bar area is an immediate attention-grabber. Bright lighting from the lobby guides the way to the impeccably accented lounge area where guests can grab a seat at the “longest bar in Houston,” sit at a table, or melt into one of the many leather sofas. Regardless of the seating choice, you’ll be surrounded by rich wooden flooring and walls, with fetching views of the marble bar and accent wall.

Bayou & Bottle is home to more than 100 bourbons and whiskeys, with a drink list certain to please any craft cocktail lover. Standouts were the Southside Mule — made with Koval bourbon—and the Black Betty, a house twist on an Old Fashioned made using Jim Beam Bonded bourbon. Don’t pass up the classic Old Fashioned, though. It’s made with Bulleit bourbon and served in a throwback Houston Oilers lowball glass.

The Huntsman, Bayou & Bottle’s signature cocktail, is definitely one of the most complex and impressive offerings. Comprised of Monkey Shoulder blended scotch, Italian vermouth and apricot brandy, the cocktail is finished table-side with a dose of Rooibos tea smoke that lingers until the last sip. Groups of six or more should check out the large format cocktails served in decanters.

Handcrafted cocktails such as these take a little time. In a hurry? Then aim for the beer list that exclusively features Houston craft selections on draft, as well as some imported bottle deals, such as Unibroue’s ‘La Fin Du Monde’ for $7.

Regular (well-heeled) patrons might be interested in the Bourbon Baron program. Those who have tried every whiskey behind the bar receive their own premium bottles which are stored in the handsome, personalized lockers on site. It will be available for you and anyone else you designate. That achievement comes with a membership into the Bayou Reserve Club, with benefits such as invitations to tastings and discounts at the bar.

Food options are available beginning at lunch with bar snacks, small plates, salads, and full lunch or dinner meals. Treat yourself to Gilbert’s Pork Rinds—gently kissed with hot sauce and lime for a savory snack that makes being bad feel so good. The Bone Marrow, Oxtail & Toast platter is packed full of flavorful finger bites and is a fantastic option for sharing. The Roasted Oysters are an excellent choice as a lighter snack.

Work off some of those calories by reserving one of the two bays in the Topgolf Swing Suite, the first of its kind anywhere in the world. Each bay has a state-of-the-art projector that displays a Topgolf field on a large screen. Clubs are included for right-handed players and southpaws alike and there’s also full food and bar service in the bays. Each accommodates up to eight patrons and can be separated by a velvet curtain. Bays can be reserved by the half hour for $30.

A steady crowd is anticipated during the Super Bowl festivities in Houston, but the venue is open to the public with no cover charge.

Whether you fancy scotch, bourbon, rye, blends, crafted cocktails or other, Bayou & Bottle has what it takes to provide an excellent outing.
