Craft Coffee Shop in Spring Announces Imminent Closure

It’s inevitable that some Houston-area businesses hit with the dining room closures related to COVID-19 are going to shutter and not return. Unfortunately, it looks like one of the few craft coffee shops in Spring, Texas is going to be among them. Momentum Coffee at 3555 Rayford announced on Facebook that its last day of business is Sunday, April 5.

Owners Allen Leibowitz, Tia Hoffman and Ethan Elms opened the shop in early December 2016, leveraging Leibowitz’s involvement with the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA), Hoffman’s expertise as a coffee buyer and Elms’ experience as head barista at Houston businesses such as Dish Society and Morningstar. The shop brought in coffee beans from top small-batch roasters across the nation, including Intelligensia, Zingerman’s and MadCap. In early 2018, Momentum added breakfast, lunch and brunch dishes, including breakfast tacos, pancakes, sandwiches and more.

Although Momentum Coffee has kept its drive-through open, the announcement states that it has still suffered a “large decline in business”. Through April 5, the hours are from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The owners encourage anyone holding a gift card to use it before the shop closes.
