Where to Have New Year’s Day Brunch in Houston – Updated
Refuel after New Year’s Eve reveling with hearty morning-after brunch or traditional lunch and dinner complete with black-eyed peas and greens for good luck. The following restaurants offer dining deals and one more opportunity to celebrate the start of 2019.
Lucienne, 1070 Dallas: The restaurant in the swanky Hotel Alessandra is open and serving brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The three-course menu includes selections such as lobster bisque, truffle grilled cheese and crêpe crème brûlée. The cost is $75 per person and includes choice of Bloody Mary or mimosa. A children’s menu is available as well. The restaurant is closed for dinner on New Year’s Day. The Original Ninfa’s on Navigation, 2704 Navigation: This Houston favorite is serving brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. On the menu is Chef Alex Padilla’s Red Chile-Pork Posole, a traditional Mexican “Hangover Soup.” There’s also a selection of Tex-Mex brunch favorites, including huevos rancheros, carnitas hash and eggs and Migas Divorciadas, which includes eggs scrambled with corn tortillas, beef fajitas and pico de gallo with a black bean tomatillo sauce. Habanera and The Guero, 9902 Gulf Fwy: All-day brunch features $5 fresh fruit mimosas and the restaurant’s signature all-natural margaritas with more than 20 flavors to mix and match. Look for Mexican breakfast favorites such as Chilaquiles (black bean bathed breakfast enchiladas and breakfast tacos.) Updated 12/27/18 at 4:22 p.m.
Bosscat Kitchen and Libations, 933 Studewood: The casual restaurant serves brunch on New Year’s Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with selections such as Sloppy José with chorizo and fried egg, Apple Jacks® Breakfast Bun with cereal milk glaze and the ‘Merica Classic with eggs, bacon and toast. There’s also a “Flaming Hot” Bloody Mary topped with Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, and a $30 Build Your Own Mimosas option that comes with a bottle of bubbles and choice of juice. For an extra $5, spike it with St. Germain, Chambord or peach liqueur.
Eight Row Flint, 1039 Yale: The favorite gathering spot opens at noon and is serving black-eyed peas and cabbage from Revival Market along with the regular menu. The bar is also airing college football bowl games throughout the day.
Rainbow Lodge, 2011 Ella: The big, cozy log cabin on impeccably landscaped grounds is hosting a Festive New Year’s Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Chef Mark Schmidt’s menu theme is “Southern Traditions.” Make reservations online or call (713) 861-8666.
Jack & Ginger’s Irish Pub, 2416 Brazos: This newcomer opened in Fall 2018 with 82 beers on tap and a menu of Irish and American comfort food. New Year’s Day brunch is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a buffet of pub favorites for $15 per person. Bites include shepherd’s pie, boxtey (Irish potato pancakes), bangers (sausages), eggs, bacon, sausage, French toast, fresh fruit and more. Guests can purchase $5 pints of mimosas in flavors like pineapple basil, mango ginger, strawberry citrus and prickly pear plus $6 Irish coffee with Bailey’s, Khalua, and Rumchata-infused whipped creams. There is also a Bloody Mary bar for custom drinks with flavors like ribeye, smoked habanero, wasabi ginger, original, roasted garlic and pickle plus an assortment of pickled veggies, spices and hot sauces.
Weights + Measures, 2808 Caroline: This gem on the edge of Midtown boasts an in-house bakery and modern spins on traditional dishes. Although brunch is generally available only for weekends, the bistro is serving it daily December 26 through New Year’s Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and at regular hours on Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The menu includes goodies like Orange Pistachio Cherry Granola, Cake Donuts + Fried Chicken, chilaquiles (think Tex-Mex breakfast nachos), steak and eggs and pizza. There is also locally-roasted Amaya coffee and espresso beverages, fresh juices and morning cocktails like Morning Wood with rum, Pimm’s No. 1, pineapple, orgeat and lemon or Rosie’s Ranch Water made with tequila, hibiscus, lime and Topo Chico. Hugo’s, 1600 Westheimer: El Buffet Que Te Vuelve A La Vida, or the “Return to Life” brunch, features a series of the restaurant’s signature sweet and savory dishes including the popular conchas (Mexican sweet bread). A’Bouzy, 2300 Westheimer: The buzzy spot known for its killer wine and Champagne list is hosting an a la carte New Year’s Day brunch from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with items such as chicken Florentine crepes, avocado-crab salad, a raw bar and Beef Bourguignon. Call (713) 722-6899 to make a reservation.

B&B Butchers, 1814 Washington: The popular steakhouse is hosting a “Hangover Cure” brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring decadent dishes including a black-eyed peas & kale special and over-sized “Manmosas,“ a mimosa served in a pilsner glass. Hungry’s is serving brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring favorites like Crab Cake Eggs Benedict, Southern Crispy Chicken and Eggs, omelets, beef tenderloin kebabs and sandwiches, wraps and tacos.
The Union Kitchen: All locations are serving brunch on New Year’s Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with $1 Mimosas and $3 Bloody Mary’s. The menu features options such as the “Elvis” Belgian Waffle and a selection of seven different Benedicts including short rib, carnitas and Texas blue crab cake.
