Popular Houston Poke Shop Opening Storefront In Sawyer Yards This Summer
Chef Jason Liao and co-founder Charlie Chang are finally getting a brick-and-mortar restaurant after nearly two years of operating Pokéology in the back of Doc Holliday’s in Rice Village. That location closed in May but the new Pokéology is having a soft-opening at 2313 Edwards in the Sawyer Yards center (near new restaurant Poitín) mid-July. The official grand opening is in August.
The brick-and-mortar became possible thanks to the owners raising $180,000 on investment platform NextSeed. While waiting for the new place to open, Liao says he’s been “helping Kata Robata with catering events here and there.”
A fully equipped kitchen (and full staff) means greater capabilities and new dishes. Joining the top-notch poke bowls are Japanese-influenced dishes like karaage, edamame and skewered meats. There are also going to be new poke bowls meant to satisfy both vegetarians and those who want something different than seafood.
In addition, Pokéology is going to offer alcoholic beverages at the new location, such as beer and sake.
