In 1942, a Sicilian immigrant named Pete Pizzo opened the first Lasagna House in Chicago. His restaurant idea lives on to this day. After all: most people love great lasagna! Lasagna House III is located in north Houston at 217 Cypress Creek Parkway near I-45 North. It serves up three different classic and creative takes on the dish Tuesdays through Sundays every week. That’s in addition to appetizers, pizza, specialty pastas (including housemade gnocchi), salads and desserts.

In July 2015, the iconic restaurant closed due to a fire. Owner Matt Vernon rebuilt and Lasagna House III reopened in September 2017. That meant the return of the classic lasagna, made with seasoned ground beef, mozzarella, Romano, ricotta, broccoli and pomodoro sauce. There’s a vegetarian version as well, with layers of sliced carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, mozzarella, Romano, ricotta—all between tender sheets of pasta and topped with rustic marinara.

In addition, savvy Lasagna House guests know to come check out the limited-time, specialty lasagnas! This is when Vernon and his staff put their creativity to work and come up with inventive lasagnas like Buffalo Chicken, Brisket and BBQ Sauce and Shrimp & Champagne Cream Sauce. The recent The Godfather special was the largest to-date with five layers of pasta, four cheeses and three meats. The selection is ever changing, so come on in to see what’s new.

Vernon takes great pride in quality. There’s an onsite organic garden used as a source of herbs and other produce. All dressings, sauces, pizza dough and desserts are made in-house. Speaking of dessert: the selection of classics includes tiramisu, cannoli and carrot cake.

The beverage selection is also a point of pride. Wine drinkers will delight in our selection of Super Tuscans and fine Bordeaux vintages and Vernon also curates a program of hard-to-find craft beers.

In fact, Lasagna House III is probably Houston’s best kept secret in where to find gems that no other bar or restaurant has for sale. These include Southern Star Black Crack and Saint Arnold Bishop’s Barrel 2, an Old Ale aged in Chardonnay Barrels with Cherries that was brewed in 2013. It’s been mellowing in the bottle ever since. (Keep your eyes open for an upcoming pairing dinner with 11 Below Brewing Company!)
