Exclusive: Buck’s Barbeque To Begin Lunch Service At Lucky’s Lodge In EaDo
Since we reported last August on Jim Buchanan’s plans to open his Buck’s Barbeque venture in The Heights, he’s had to remain flexible and make a few adjustments. His opening at the Lucky’s Pub location was scheduled to begin the weekend Hurricane Harvey made landfall, and the Houston Avenue bar and restaurant suffered significant flood damage as White Oak Bayou breached its banks when the storm parked over the region for several days. The location remains closed with an uncertain future.
In the interim, Buchanan was able to offer weekend barbecue pop-ups and steak nights at Great Heights Brewing Company in order to develop some name recognition and more of a following. More recently he’s been able to add a Saturday popup at 8th Wonder Brewing, and a Sunday barbecue gig at The Frio Hill Country Grill in Cypress. Things are about to get a bit more regular for Buchanan.
Beginning January 17, Buck’s Barbeque Company offers a regular lunch service at Lucky’s Lodge in EaDo, at 2024 Rusk Street. Buchanan will be open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with extended hours on Fridays, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Expect a regular menu of brisket, sausage, espresso-rubbed pork spareribs, and smoked chicken, with other meats rotating in as daily specials. In addition to sides that vary from day to day, plans also include a selection of sandwiches, stuffed baked potatoes, and even some salad options. The barbecue comes market-style (a la carte) in a hybrid counter and table service setting.
The new location will help fill the void left by the departure of Pappa Charlies Barbeque, who is presently scouting for a new home. Lucky’s Lodge is located at the opposite end of the same EaDo shopping center as the former Pappa Charlies location.
For now, Buchanan intends to continue his popups at 8th Wonder Brewery and The Frio Grill on weekends. He looks forward to being able to serve the downtown Houston lunch crowd during the week, and continue to build his business and presence in the Houston area.
