“Honky Tonk” Goodnight Charlie’s Swings Open The Doors

Goodnight Charlie’s, the bar people have been waiting for ever since master sommelier David Keck left Camerata at Paulie’s way back in October 2016, debuts tonight. Located at 2531 Kuester Street in Montrose, the bar Keck co-owns with businessman Peter McCarthy will have a shorter beverage list and kitchen hours than usual during its initial opening phase. Food is available from 6 p.m. until sold out for now (should be available until at least midnight, and possibly later). The bar operating hours are from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 12 noon to midnight on Sundays.

The full drink list (available online) will ultimately include stirred cocktails, frozen drinks and cocktails on tap. Wines from Duchman Cellars and McPherson will also be on tap, and no honky tonk would be complete without bottled and canned beers. There are also 40 types of bourbon offered. (For the early opening days, drinks available include a few cocktails and a reduced bourbon selection.)

The food menu—developed by chef Alvin Schultz of the popular “Eat. Drink. Experience!” private dinners and a former MasterChef competition winner—focuses on dishes that range from traditional Mexican (like tacos with housemade tortillas and elote) and creative takes such as chicken fried steak cemita. There is also a late-night menu that features breakfast tacos, and once the bar is up to full speed, those will be available until 3 a.m. on weekends. The full food menu is available online.

Live music will be featured on Friday and Saturday nights. The full schedule can be viewed online. For tonight’s kick-off party, Aaron McDonnell is performing starting at 9 p.m.
