Best Of Both Worlds: Where To Watch The World Series AND Celebrate Halloween!

Houstonians are facing a conundrum this Halloween. On Tuesday, October 31—a night normally dedicated to trick-or-treating, costume parties and the Monster Mash—the Astros will continue their epic battle against the Los Angeles Dodgers for their first World Series title. With the game count at 3-2 in Houston’s favor and the next (perhaps final) battle slated as an away game at Dodgers Stadium, the choice seems to be either going out to celebrate Halloween or keeping eyes glued to the television screen.

Luckily, many bars and restaurants around the city are making sure Houstonians can do both. Here’s a list of spots that are both showing the games and celebrating one of the most fun holidays of the year with spooky specials.

Note: this article will be updated as we continue to receive event information.

Axelrad, 1517 Alabama: If the fear of a potential game seven isn’t enough, or if you need a break from the inevitable stress of game six, Axelrad will be showing the game and featuring a haunted house tour. For $10, guests get a beer and a spooky tour starting at 8 p.m. Plus, there’s always those hammocks if you need to lie down during the seventh inning stretch.

Bosscat Kitchen and Libations, 4310 Westheimer: Bosscat Kitchen & Libations is partnering with popular Australian winery 19 Crimes for a chef-inspired Halloween dinner menu. Chef Peter Petro has created an “elevated prison” dinner menu that will be available from 5 p.m. until it runs out. The staff will be dressed in prisoner grab, its Whiskey Room will be converted into a prisoner cell, dinners will be served “prison style” on trays with three sides (house salad, stewed green beans with pork belly, handcut white bread) and a choice of main course (Salisbury steak or chicken with mushroom gravy, both served over homemade mashed potatoes). The menu is priced at $35 per person (includes glass of wine or cocktail), or $60 dinner for 2 (includes bottle of wine or two cocktails). Bar Director Matt Sharp will be serving a specialty “Stephen King” cocktail, a take on a black Manhattan, and fresh fruit lime Jell-O. Customers who come in a costume will receive a special treat. Meanwhile, Astros fans will be pleased to know the games will be on all TVs with sound, and all Texas draft beers will be $5 during World Series games. Fans can also imbibe on Orbit Juice, an Astros-inspired take on a Paloma with tequila, citrus, bitters and grapefruit for $8 during the games.

The Branch, 7710 Long Point: What’s better than Halloween candy? Halloween candy paired with craft beer and consumed while watching the Astros play. This Spring Branch spot is offering up wicked combos like Saint Arnold Brewing Company’s Raspberry AF with Pop Rocks and Brash Hammer Smashed Face with Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. That’s in addition to happy hour prices all night long. The Branch is hosting a costume contest with pro photographer Jeremy Pierson of Deepfoto on hand. Winners will get grown-up treats from Saint Arnold Brewing Company. There are more traditional goodies for kids of all ages until 10 p.m. when the venue turns strictly 21-and-up. Visit the event Facebook page for additional details.

Costumes are encouraged, the Astros game will be shown via projector and there will be a live DJ as well. Charlie’s Devil, a bestselling cocktail made with muddled cucumber and blackberries, tequila, lemon, and ginger soda, is on special for $5. If guests 21 or older come dressed as a devil, they’ll receive the first one for free.

If the Astros don’t win, rest assured there will be plenty of drink choices for dulling the pain.

Mongoose vs. Cobra, 1011 McGowen: This Midtown favorite will have the game on for as long as it lasts, and the featured Tuesday cocktails will revolve around the celebration of Samhain, which Halloween is loosely based on. It’s also a stop on the Midtown Halloween pub crawl, so expect lots of costumed Astros fans to cheer with.
