With tantalizing autumn temperatures on Houston’s doorstep, it’s the perfect time to help Rainbow Lodge at 2011 Ella celebrate its 40th anniversary. The spacious log cabin with three fireplaces is located on a full acre of landscaped beauty. Rainbow Lodge has long been one of Houston’s top picks for holiday celebrations and other memorable events—but it’s so much more than that, too.

There’s always something new and fun to look forward to at Rainbow Lodge. Part of that is thanks to Chef Mark Schmidt’s ever-changing culinary creations and Beverage Director Marc Borel’s wine list, which is both studious and of-the-moment.

Rainbow Lodge is open continuously Tuesdays through Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday dinner service is from 5:30 to 10 p.m. We are “Wild about Sundays!” “The Lodge” is open from 10:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. that day with $2 mimosas until 3 p.m.

Inside Tip: Don’t miss Rainbow Lodge’s $15 Sunday Supper, a 10-year tradition. It’s all about casual comfort, or, as we like to say, “No fancy pants on Sundays.” Expect to find rotating features such as Chicken Fried Steak, Smothered Chops, Bison Meatloaf, Chicken Piccatta and Red Chili Stacked Enchiladas. Sunday Supper is a true bargain especially when coupled with our half-price wines.

In addition to our full menu featuring seafood, wild game and steaks, here are few weekly highlights:

Happy Hour: Wrap up your day in our Tied Fly Bar, which overlooks our creek and grounds. From 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, indulge in wines by-the-glass for as little as $6 and explore our trout stream bar, a one-of-a-kind piece of art hand-carved from a single basswood tree. It was commissioned by Hansen in 1993. If you want to support the Somoma and Napa wine industries recently devastated by wildfires, we have many selections from those regions. Our happy hour list also includes other unique, small production wines from around the world.

Local beers on tap include those from favorite Houston breweries like Buffalo Bayou and Eureka Heights. Bar menu tastes start at $3 and include Fried Texas Quail Bites, Smoked Duck Gumbo, Pesto Grilled Shrimp and other affordable luxuries. Check our website for the current happy hour menu. 

Lunch: Experience the lighter side of Rainbow Lodge with hits such as Lobster and Avocado Salad, Crab Cakes with Creole Mustard Sauce, Artichoke Chicken, Braised Short Rib Grilled Cheese and Pan Seared Rainbow Trout with Pecan Butter. No time to linger? Order our $15 three-course business lunch. Start with a cup of gumbo or salad, choose from our featured fish or pork tenderloin and wrap up with a petite sweet. It’s enough to recharge you for the rest of your busy day. Wild Game Burger Fridays are not to be missed. Our blend of buffalo, elk and beef ribeye won the Houston Press 2013 Burger Bracket Championship and has a strong following for good reasons. Make it part of your Friday routine. You won’t be sorry.

Monthly Wine Event: Our popular “sip and stroll” tasting events perfectly pairs wines of a particular theme with the season’s menu tastes. Hosted the second Wednesday of every month from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., guests can sit and enjoy either inside or gaze over the spacious grounds on the deck. The ever-changing themes focus on the wines of a specific country, region, grape or season. The cost is only $35 per person—an economic, lovely way to shake off any mid-week stress.

Tasting Menu: Explore the many culinary delights Rainbow Lodge has to offer with the Chef Schmidt’s six-course dinner. Small portions of seasonal favorites are paired with Wine Director Marc Borel’s top picks to bring out the best in each dish. This is where we celebrate the season and highlight our onsite garden harvests, citrus grove and often even honey from our beehives.
