Houston Food Finder’s “Feed The Need” articles feature opportunities for Houstonians to eat, drink, have fun and help good causes all at the same time.

The eighth annual Keels & Wheels Concours d’Elegance Uncorked event is on Thursday, March 23 from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Mercedes-Benz of Houston Greenway showroom. The food and wine spectacle is not just the run-up to the epic classic car and vintage boat show, Keels & Wheels Concours d’Elegance on May 6 and 7 at the Lakewood Yacht Club in Seabrook. The live and silent auctions at the event also raise money for Boys & Girls Harbor, which cares for over 100 neglected and abandoned children each year. To date, the annual Keels & Wheels festivities have raised more than $1.6 million for charities.

Anchorman Dave Ward of ABC Channel 13 is the guest of honor. After 50 years on the air, Ward recently broke the Guinness World Record for longest running local TV news anchor in the world at the same station.

Radio host Sam Malone, another well-established Houston media personality, is serving as emcee. The City of Seabrook, Bay Area Regional Medical Center and MCM Worldwide are among the major sponsors.

Attendees will not only have the opportunity to taste dozens of wines and small bites from area restaurants, but can also bid in silent and live auctions, as well as admire classic automobiles on display. Restaurants providing those small bites include Brennan’s of Houston, Carmelo’s Italian Restaurant, Amalfi, Masraff’s, Mister French’s Gourmet Bakery and many more. Each chef is assigned a classic automobile theme to use as inspiration for his or her hors d’oeuvre and there’s a wine pairing for each as well.

Tickets are available online or by phone for $75 each. Call (713) 521-0105 to purchase. The cost goes up by $25 if bought at the door (and there’s a risk that the event may be totally sold out by then).
